Hi,
Trying to lose weight and I know if I could drop pop I would probably lose it much faster. Any Ideas or help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Hello!

Just wanted to let you know that I am in the same boat, and am working on cutting out soda from my diet completely. There's no easy way to do it, but one tip that I found is always having an alternative drink with you. I never had drinks with me (in my car/office/wherever), so whenever I was thirsty, I would buy the first seemingly appealingly drink I found - Coke. Now, I keep bottles of water in my car, and at my desk at the office, and in my kitchen. I no longer have an excuse to look for the "most convenient" beverage.

Also, my boyfriend has decided to cut soda out too, which has been a big help/inspiration to me, so if you have a friend/SO that is willing to make the change too, it'd be great for both of you!

    Good luck! :)

Pop is definitely a diet killer. I know a lot of people around here are down on diet sodas, but I have an interesting story to tell. When I first hit 202, I was drinking 3-4 regular Pepsi's per day. I hated the taste of diet soda, but Pepsi first came out with their "Pepsi One" which is much, much sweeter than normal diet pepsi but still only one calorie. I found I was able to switch to that and cut out those empty calories.

Anyway, after a few months of that, I had a diet pepsi and discovered I liked it. And now, after years of drinking diet soda, I can't stand the taste of regular sugared sodas - they are way too sweet! I personally prefer diet coke to pepsi now, but anything diet will do.

I have done a lot of reading about artificial sweeteners and I feel confident they are safe. I have also read articles that suggest artificial sweeteners trigger a reaction that makes you hungrier but I am not convinced. I've been drinking diet soda on and off for years and I do not feel it contributes negatively other than the caffeine.

I think, like anything else in life - all things in moderation. So, one potential suggestion would be to try out Coke Zero, which is significantly sweeter than Diet Coke. I know everyone raves on and on about water and that's all good and fine - but nothing beats a cold diet coke.... i could go for one right now!

    Good luck to you!

Pop was the hardest thing for me to give up but one day I just said no more. I don't even have any on cheat days because I am afraid if I have one the cravings will come back and I will have to start all over again. I don't drink alot of diet soda either but if I am having a craving I will usually drink a coke zero or Dr Pepper Ten. Both are pretty good and don't have the diet aftertaste alot of sodas have.

I am addicted to Coke (the soda!) I used to drink about 5 cans a day. I've cut back to one 7.5 oz can a day (90cals) and I'm doing fine. Hopefully one day I won't need it at all but this caffiene addiction is crazy. I hate diet sodas, I just can't get past the taste but weirdly enough I like unsweet tea with sweet n low.

Really try to give them up. You can do it. I was a diet coke junkie until I discovered that the aspartame in them was giving me mini seizures. The doctor never associated the two, but when I was researching the anti-seizure medications I found a link about aspartmame and seizures. Instead of starting the medicines I dropped the diet coke and never had another one. For a long time I didn't have any soda drinks, but then I got started on diet coke with splenda. I loved it, but eventually gave them up too. Now its just unsweetened tea or water. Good lucki
  • Pop is a hard thing to give up...when I first started cutting it out, along with other sugar I actually found that I felt the same as I did when I quit smoking. It all comes down to mind over matter, which I still struggle with, you can do it! I wish I had some awe inspiring suggestion! Good luck :)

When I started this journey, I was a full fledged Mountain Dew addict, seriously, I easily had a 2 liter a day, had one at all times all day long! I had my last one (so far!) on Jan 29th. Soda and chips are my favorite go to foods, so cutting them out has been the hardest for me. I have cheated a few times the last 7 weeks(cheese puffs and a real Dr Pepper), but I am slowly beginning to enjoy diet Dr Pepper and Coke Zero more. I haven't had a diet Dew in a couple of weeks, maybe when I do, I will be used to the diet ones enough to like it! I had a friend that said if I would eat a little something salty when trying to get used to the diet it would help, didn't really for me, but maybe you could try that? Course sodium is a whole issue in itself when losing weight! Good luck!!

I stopped drinking soda completely over a year ago. It's made zero difference in my weight. I think at some point in time I just picked up some other caloric replacement.

Find something else that you like to drink. I never used to like drinking water, but now I'm drinking 4-5 16.9 oz bottles a day. I used to drink 5-6 cans of coke a day. I'm not saying that I like drinking water, but my mouth hasn't felt gross after all that water at the end of the day like it sometimes used to after all that coke. Aside from all the water, I also have a lite mocha cafe latte in the morning, a bottle of diet green tea with mixed berry flavor and a bottle of flavored vitamin water.

I have 80% stopped drinkign soda over a year ago. I absolutely LOVE drinking water, so it's not that hard for me. But every once in a while, I'll get a really bad craving to drink something carbonated, so when that happens i'll drink a DIET soda. Just recently tho, i had tried the water enhancer called "Mio", and that stuff is delicious! The fruit punch flavor tastes BETTER than cool-aid! AND it's zero calories! :D I've had a thought to add it into club-soda to see if it be like drinking regular soda, i have yet to try it out, but it seems like a great idea (:
