    You do the "pretend to be busy so people think I am doing real work" thing - I am a master at this myself.
    I write computer software.. and maintain what I work on.
    If I write it correctly the first time... there's less for me to do.
    If I were to constantly ask for more work, when something bad DID happen, I would then be responsible for more work then I could possibly do.. Things would lag behind, this would be noticed, and my bonuses would go bye-bye... and if I continued that way, my job might go bye-bye.

    so strangely in the name of job security and to get more money, I dont always work at my job. odd, but true.
