Water Consumption Question

Hi Again!
I have a question. MFP is telling me to drink 8 8oz glasses of water. On an average day I can easily consume more like 10 8oz glasses of water. I'm just always so thirsty. The virtual water glass on MFP starts spilling over as if I've consumed too much. Is that a bad thing? How much water is too much?
Thanks!
P.S. : I have one cup of coffee in the morning and other than that it's all water. I don't drink any other types of beverages.

8 x 8 is a bit of a myth, but it's okay as a rough guide. If you drink a bit more, that's fine, if you drink a bit less, that's fine too. If you're drinking a *lot* more, and/or using the bathroom frequently, you might wanna get checked out for diabetes.0

Thank you... I'm not drinking much more. Just a little bit more. Diabetes runs in my family. When I say runs in my family I mean my Grandfather, Grandmother, Aunt, Father, etc. One of the many reasons for this lifestyle change. I will most certainly keep an eye on that because I was unaware that having a high thirst could be related to that. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.0 -
They say half your weight in ounces or I have used a water calculator before just to get a good idea. I am suggested at 1.05 gallons a day.0

Drink all the water you want!! drink lots and lots of it, give a check on your sodium intake so you don't retain much water and go to your doctor to check for your glucose and sodium in blood, but don't worry as long as you are drinking at least 2 liters per day, you're OK, but never less0

Yeah, type II runs in my family, too. >.< Excessive thirst and urination are a warning sign for all forms of diabetes -- I, II and gestational.
But, yeah. 8 x 8 is pretty obviously flawed; to start with, your water intake is influenced by heat and humidity, and by your activity levels, and your body weight, and so on... I actually like the version jkleman79 has -- half your pounds in ounces; I'd never heard of that one before. (Probably because I'm in a metric country... ;p )0 -
You can overdose on water though. It can cause brain swelling. However that is usually seen in people who drink several gallons per day. 10-12 8 ounce glasses per day is not a bad thing.0

i drink usually half my weight in ounces of water so thats about 10- 8 oz glasses. =D 8 oz isn't for everyone...some require less than that some more and some are just nifty on 8 =D

you are fine! most people dont' drink enough. it is very hard to get water intoxication, where too much water dilutes the electrolytes in the body and inhibits normal biological function. the recommended amount of water is half your body weight in ounces, but if you are very active, sweat alot, or live in a hot climate, you will need more.
good for you to have such a healthy habit :0)0
