Strength Training... Without Actual Weights

Hello all,

Whenever I have done weight lifting (and I've always loved to see how heavy I can go!), I have felt amazing during and after, and just in general love it, especially compared to cardio (which is boring to me).

My one problem is the free weight area in the gym being overrun with teenage and college aged boys goofing off, and they come in droves. I just don't feel comfortable lifting there and neither does my boyfriend. Yes, I'm a socially awkward penguin.

Anyway, I was looking around my apartment to see what I could use as weights and was wondering what people thought of these items:

1. Cat Litter Tub w/ Handle that weighs 38lbs
2. Cat Food Bag (Big Bag from BJ's)
3. A chair
4. School Books
5. My full bookbag

I do have a resistance band and 2lb wrist weights, but they don't do much for me.

If you have any other tips or fun "weights" that you use, let me know! :)

    Body weight training works too!
Water bottles - you can fill and empty however much weight you are looking for. Gallon jugs are nice, they have handles!

Fantastic! I did just spot a case of water that is pretty heavy that I could lift around too, but those water jugs are so cheap! And I'd have a drink right in my hands.

I put rocks in my back pack and use it as a weighted vest for squats and running the bleachers at the local school.

50 pound sandbags are useful as well. You can buy one for like 4 bucks at lowes. Wrap it in several garbage bags, then throw it in an old duffle bag.
I do a lot of squats with that for conditioning and warmups. You can throw em on your shoulders, over one shoulder, or hold it in your arms.

I like the fact that these ideas are not only great, but they are also very affordable!
