"Normal" food?

I actually eat NORMAL food... its all about PORTION CONTROL .
I use my measuring cups and measuring spoons to eat the actual serving sizes... after awhile you'll be able to eyeball it but i know for almost the first month and a half i HAD to measure EVERYTHING. ( istill measure A lot of things)
I eat whatever everyone else eats but in moderation.
I eat cheesecake...Lawlers cheesecake bites= 80 calories/piece
I eat chocolate... M&Ms, 5 calories per M&m ... 5=25 calories 10=50 calories
I eat burgers ... 80/20 chuck but I measure or weigh out exactly a 1/4 lb burger (before i cook, so the calories are accurate)
NOW I DONT EAT THESE THINGS EVERYDAY MIND YOU but this journey isnt about depriving yourself or having to eat certain things...
diets= yes and no foods
life style change for weight loss= moderation, portion control, exercise
But do what works best for you and your family. Just because someone else is doing it one way doesnt make that the ONLY way to do it.!! :flowerforyou:0 -

YES. I do not eat any DIET foods. everything is all natural and healthy! My family eats this as well.... but some of them like to eat the extra snacks! lol0
-
Normal food eater here, I realised that most diet foods are crammed with artificial this and artificial that and I think true good health comes from eating as naturally as possible. I have long grain brown rice, rice cakes, potatoes and occasionally wholewheat pasta, in moderation, quinoa, lots of veggies, both fresh and frozen, soups, cottage cheese, fruits, peanut butter, nuts and seeds, yoghurt, eggs and even chocolate sometimes, if I have been exercising and want a treat. I think it actually makes you prone to eating more if you buy specific diet foods, and as to shakes and things, I have never felt the need for protein shakes. The closest I have had is those 9 bars, which I rather liked the taste of.0

My family gets to eat what I eat...they need to learn healthy habits now. I have 5 kids & the hubby. Ages 2-18 (well, the hubby is older, lol). I've learned if they are hungry, they will eat what I cooked now, most would rather have brocolli over fries in my house & they are learning to diversify their taste of food.0

I eat "normal" and don't expect a separate meal from the rest of my family. I just make sure to monitor how much I have of it. Foods like pizza, tacos, ravioli and the like. Eat out occasionally when it can't be avoided. If I were by myself I'd skip eating out, but won't make my family do that.0

I eat all 'normal' foods as well. I am a full time working mom. My day is jammed already. The last thing I want to do is make more than one meal. And, I want to instill in my son a healthy eating lifestyle.
Our menu plan tends to be made up of fruit, veggies, dairy, protein and whole grain. I 'lighten up' all of my families favorite meals. For example my families favorite meal is meat loaf with mashed potatoes. I mix tons of veggies into my meatloaf (zuccini, carrots, peppers, onions, mushrooms) and I actually use ground turkey or chicken in place of beef. I make mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes & we usually have oven roasted potatoes or baked potatoes as well.
Be creative & always check the internet for health exchanges that can be made. Sall changes can save lots of calories and taste pretty close to the orginal. Also, watch your portion sizes & pair with a salad or broth base soup. And, don't forget to drink plently of water sometimes when you think you are hungry your really just thirsty & a glass of warter will help.0 -

Another good mash is a mixture of red potatoes,
parsnips, and carrots. Made that on accident
when I annihilated these items in the pressure
cooker. It was a mistake, but ended up being
really good!
One other mash I make includes potatoes, and
butternut squash.0 -
Me, i take no supplements nor do i drink protein shakes.... i eat what everyone else eats0

Lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, whole grains...all "normal" food. There is plenty of great food choices out there. No need to buy the processed, packaged, convenient "diet" foods. You will be healthier eating "clean"0
-
After discovering protein fluff I would count that as a normal food. It is going to be a regular part of my diet for a long time to come.0
-
Now I don't cook separate dinners for myself and for the rest of my family. I have made some changes to things to make them healthier. Instead of having macaroni and cheese practically every night, we have more veggies. I don't add salt to things. I'm switching to turkey instead of beef. I don't fry things very often. I'm basically making the same things I was before, I'm just making them healthier for all of us.0

Honestly, I'm eating whatever the heck I want. I don't really check to see if I could be eating anything in alternative because I wouldn't be eating it normally, and when I lose the weight, I'll go back to old habits, it makes more sense to just pay attention to how much I'm eating. To me, the success of this thing is to eat whatever I want in moderation. I'm doing well so far.0

Having had done WW when I was younger and not as food smart, I was lured into the "diet fad" trap. I ate so much low-fat/fat free crap that was all processed. I strive to buy more whole foods which sometimes happen to be organic but I don't make it my mission. We're on a budget - I mean, these days who ISN'T on a budget? I buy lots of fruit and veggies because my kids go nuts over fresh fruit and I tend to stay on the side of leaner meats - lots of chicken (save for the awesome-gotta-have-it steak once in awhile)... since I view this as a lifestyle change, keeping things "normal" is of the utmost importance. I don't want my kids growing up thinking of mommy as having food issues. I focus on portion control (which is RARELY easy, but I'm learning) and still enjoy lots of things - mac & cheese, spaghetti, Mexican food (my utter weakness) and if I want Coke, I drink Coke. I don't drink TEN, I drink one. I don't use fake margarines, I use real butter and reaaaaalllly enjoy it. I don't believe that anything "diet" in the food industry can possibly be good for you - the 500 items in the ingredient list is proof positive of that.
In making this lifestyle change, obvs you are going to make better decisions. It's inevitable. But you can make better, healthier decisions without breaking the bank or feeding into commercialism & the diet industry.0 -
Everyone in my family eats the same thing at dinner time, well rounded balanced meals.
We eat lean meat and green veggies every night. And yes, my kids eat brussel sprouts and asparagus. they don't have a choice.
the difference is I weigh everything I eat so that I know exactly how much i'm eating.0 -
Only regular food eaten by this woman!0
-
Yup, absolutely! I tend to drink a small glass of wine most nights, I have regular small bits of cake or something else sweet... I eat light chips/crisps. Just had home made spagetti bolognese for dinner with lean beef and plenty of veg.
Things I can't really manage are bought pizza (it's just tooo calorific - home made pizza can be okay), quite a few other meals out i.e. a nice fettucini alfredo or fish and chips (can have oven baked fish n chips at home) and sadly a pint of cider is about 600 cal!
But still, I'm not obsessive and I will go over my cals if I feel I'd like to. I'm in no great hurry to lose... I'm trying to eat like I will eat this way for the rest of my life.0 -
I plan out my meals for the week so if I can adjust it to fit into my calories and whatnot I do it for the whole family, but it's not always gonna work with my budget. Sometimes I just have smaller portions of what my kids have (they're pretty active and don't really need to be too worried about what they eat seeing as how its not junk food). Other times I make a healthy sandwich or salad.0

I still cook normal foods too. We eat meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, steak, chicken, fish, hamburgers, spaghetti, pizza..ect. It all depends on your definition of "normal". It's all about portion control. If you don't like low fat or non fat or low carb items, cook with the regular stuff and just be accountable. Track it all. Even the junk. Don't deny yourself items or you will set yourself up for failure. It's all about maintaining an eating plan you can LIVE with. Try to make lean protiens, fruits and veggies the major part of your "normal" foods if at all possible.0

unprocessed natural foods are best, and normally cheap in bulk e.g. fruit veg sweet potatoes, whole wheat pasta, bread, try reduced fat hummus, lower fat cheese, low fat milk, cereals without sugar or porridge oats/weetabix, tomato based pasta sauces, low fat/sugar yogurts, use more beans/pulses/lentils and meat substitutes e.g. frozen quern mince as it's lower in fat and cheaper maybe?
look at the low GI/GL diet they use normal foods that keep you fuller for longer based on protein, fibre and complex carbs, hope this helps you0 -
Me! I still eat pizza, cookies, ice cream, chips, fast food, and all-you-can-eat buffets. (Not all in one day though! )
The key is moderation and working it into your calorie allowance. I have lost over 10 lbs. It's coming off much more slowly than if I had gone with an extreme diet, but I am never (okay, rarely) feeling deprived, so I can keep this up for a long time. Once I hit my goal weight and switch to maintenance, I will probably feel like I have plenty and then some.
(Just a note: all-you-can-eat happens very rarely, special occasions, or it would completely defeat me!! )0 -
I would advise - read all labels in the supermarket - be aware of what is in the food you eat, encourage the rest of the family to have a healthy food intake (but don't bore them with it). Maybe encourage the kids to shop with you and explain the labels - I saw a class of children in my local supermarket doing this the other day.
If they are eating side that you know you shouldn't have in excess (e.g. fries) make yourself a baked or steamed potato.
Choose low fat options and from scratch over full-fat takeaway/ processed that you can't control the ingredients of.0 -
Normal food?
I basically eat the exact same stuff now as I did before except for:
- doughnuts
- cake
- Tastykakes (DANG IT just got distributed here!)
- Reese's Peanut Butter Cups  (and candy bars / chocolate in general)
- Keebler Flipsides (actually no crackers at all. I stopped eating chips couple months ago)
- most bread and rolls. When I want a "sandwich" type implement I reach for "everything" bagel thins
I eat the same stuff. I just eat. . . less of it.
Chili, black beans and rice, linguine with meatballs and marinara or primavera, oatmeal with pecans, cocoa brownies (my own recipie), loose meat sandwiches (sloppy joes) , spinach and mushroom pizza (light on the cheese), cereal (grape nuts is my favorite since I was 3 years old), turkey sausage egg whites potato onions scramble thingy, and very occasionally. . . pizza rolls. I'm surprised how delicious the Kroger brand are.0 -

To me all you can eat was a great way for different choices.
Most of the time it was at the chinese restaurant, and I'd eat
one plate of food, and a bowl of soup. Problem was all the
sodium I ate, including soy sauce in my wonton soup! Actually
I'd skipped the wontons, and made a veggie soup.
Now we go about once a month, I lay off the soy sauce,
and eat at the raw bar where they cook your food for you.
I tell them hot and spicy for the "sauce", and NO SOUP FOR ME!
Now it's more of a treat and not a weekly, bi-weekly deal.
As for pizza, once in a while is ok and it's always Papa Murphy's!
There are a few Large deLITE pizzas that won't kill you, if you eat
two slices.
The other night there was a bag of Cheetos Puffs looking at me.
I had five puffs, logged them and it actually killed the urge! :laugh:0 -
This is why I joined mfp. I don't want to buy prepackaged food or expensive shakes for the rest of my life. Those gimmicks don't last. Don't want my family to do this, either. Those chips I used to like are like poison to me now,but if I eat something unhealthy I add it in and exercise more. When we go out, I drink soda water and a twist of lime, well sometimes a bit of vodka, but I add it in my calories.0
