Potato chips from a weight loss stand point?

Out of curiosity from a pure weight loss standpoint my understanding is that calorie deficit is the most important thing. I have very healthy foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner, not to mention my fruit snacks in between, but I binge out on party mix 3 times a week. When I do it is definitely within my calorie limit.
Aside from an absolute health perspective how detrimental is it to my fitness plans?

Chips or party mix are generally high in fat and salt, with little other substance to them. Ok as a small snack, but wouldn't say binging is good.0

It's just taking the place of other more nutrient dense foods you COULD be getting and need. In regards to weightloss, it's calories of course. With regards to fitness however, chips are a bad idea.0

So essentially it's not going to affect my weight having a serving a couple times a week so long as I'm not over eating? I generally don't go above a serving in a day, and I don't binge out and eat a ton of it. I also let it replace carbs and such, so it doesn't change a whole lot. I just didn't know if the ton of salts and fat was going to truly hurt me or not.0

If it's within your calorie budget, it shouldn't matter in regards to weight loss. I'd say as long as you can keep your macros (including total and sat fats) balanced on the days you eat it, you should be ok in other regards. As far as sodium goes, you can go to reports, nutrition, and select sodium to see where you're at if you don't want to keep it on your diary macros. If you get more than 2300mg/day when you have your snack, you might want to think about reducing how often you eat it, how much you eat, or work on better balancing sodium around the snack.
Having chips or party mix every now and then isn't too bad, some people live off of diet frozen dinners, and those are really bad on the sodium.0 -
Thanks a ton becky, you really helped me out with the amount of sodium intake I should have on a daily basis. Based on your post I did some research and will be reducing my sodium intake. ^.^
Cheers.
