I just got a new cheap HRM from amazon, never had one before. I just tried it there for a walk, and what usually is about 150-170 cals, the HRM says I burned 445 cals!!!!!!!. Everything is set up right, age weight, VO2.

If I lay still for an hour with my HRM on, it would say I burned calories, so, my question is, should I be talking a % off? How do I know what I actually burned or am I to enter 445 as my cals burned?

Its a Pulse sonic K920d

Thanks

    Hi aslm,

I have a MIO PINK Motiva Petite HRM. You should only wear your HRM while working out. We all burn calories while sleeping, sitting, talking, etc. The HRM is to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout. I hope this helped.

I usually subtract my BMR (you can calculate yours under the "Tools" tab here at MFP) from what my HRM tells me I burned just to be on the "safe" side.

I use this website to calculate my calories burned during my workout: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm

I have an inexpensive HRM, too, and it only calculates my average HR during my workout (if I turn it on and off). My husband has a HRM that calculates his calories burned, but it is usually slightly higher than what the above website calculates, so he uses the website as well.
