Ladies what's your Lb gain before \ during TOM???

Hi all, quick Q 'whats your weight gain before during your Time Of Month?' I've noticed lot of my mfp friends have felt discouraged by a sudden and inexplicable weigh gain. I think this thread should work to re-assure. Its not you, its TOM.
I gain between 3-6lbs and I lose it again within a week.
Also your appetite increases because your body is working harder. On average you burn an extra 300kcal a day during TOM

about 3 lbs (usually have a light period)0

I only weighed myself once that I can remember. I was up 4 pounds but then lost 6 when it was over.0

I gain 2-4 and lose it as soon as TOM goes away.0

I don't normally gain, but won't lose anything during TOTM. Although having said that, I did actually lose 1lb for the first time ever this time, but I exercised exceptionally hard this week so that explains it.0

I never gain anything extra during that week....I have NO idea why. I notice other people complain about weight gain, etc., during their TOM, so it must happen to a lot of other women, but I, personally, have never experienced that.0

about 3 - way up there because I want to eat everything in sight! lol.. .but then it's over and it pretty much goes away.0

I'm on the pill and it no way hinders my weightloss, like other people i know seem to claim :P0 -
I would have to agree with you. During that TOM I definitely get a spike in my weight, between 3-5lbs for me. Also, ditto on the increase in appetite, I want to eat everything in sight when it's that TOM but I have to be disciplined and following my calorie intake for the day. If I eat extra I try to build up the necessary exercise calories to burn the extra calories I've consumed.
Bottom line is if I stay on program and continue to eat healthy and exercise the weight plus some disappears within a week.0 -

I actually still lost this time around.I didnt see a again before or after and stayed off the scales for 2 days in the middle. * Results not typical* BUT usually 2-3lb difference.0

I don't usually gain anything. Normaly I just stay around the same for the first day or so. It really doesn't affect me too much0

Generally, 3-5 pounds for me. It's usually the week before though. This time around I haven't gained yet. I guess it's a lucky month.0

Honestly....I seem to be at my lowest right before TOM! But then once it hits, I'm usually up 3-5 lbs for a few days and then I drop again.0

3-5 lbs, but I've learned not to weigh that week, it takes about a week to 10 days for mine to go away as well.0

I don't know how much I gain because I avoid the scale during TOM, but I am EXCEPTIONALLY hungry! I think I'll have to keep tracking like I have been and see what I gain - and just remember to not become discouraged.0

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
In the days leading up to your period, do you have bloating, moodiness, or some other feelings that you’d rather avoid? If so, you are not alone. Many women have uncomfortable feelings starting a week or two before their period that usually stop when their period starts. These feelings can vary from mild to severe and in how long they last each month. Doctors generally consider such feelings premenstrual syndrome (PMS) if they interfere with some part of your life. You may experience one or more of the symptoms below.
Signs of PMS
•Acne
•Bloated (swollen) stomach
•Constipation
•Crying spells
•Depression
•Fast heartbeat
•Hunger
•Feeling tense
•Feeling crabby
•Being tired
•Feeling anxious
•Headaches
•Joint pain
•Mood swings
•Tender breasts
•Hard time focusing
•Trouble sleeping
•Swollen hands, feet
•Weight gain
•Hard time handling stress
It is important to know that these symptoms are often a normal part of having periods. No one knows for sure what causes PMS, but it seems to be linked to the changes in hormone levels that happen during your menstrual cycle. PMS is not caused by stress or depression, but they can make your PMS symptoms worse.
Steps to help with PMS
There are many steps you can take to help you feel better. You can start by making changes in your diet and exercise habits. Your doctor can offer some suggestions. You may need to try different things to figure out what works for you. Consider these tips:
•Eat a healthy diet, including fruits, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates (found in whole grain breads, pasta, and cereals)
•Stay away from salt the few days before your period to help with bloating
•Drink less caffeine (found in soda, tea, and coffee) to feel less crabby and help ease breast soreness
•Eat small, frequent meals each day rather than big ones
•Make sure you are getting enough exercise
•Make sure to get enough sleep
•Keep a regular schedule for exercise, meals, and bedtime
You may have heard that vitamins and other pills such as vitamin B6, vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium can help relieve PMS. It’s important that you talk to your doctor before trying any supplements or herbal treatments.
Treating PMS top
If you are having symptoms of PMS, let your doctor know. While there is no cure for PMS, your doctor can help. In addition to changes in your diet and exercise, he or she may suggest medicines.
Many medicines are over-the-counter (you can buy them without a doctor’s order), such as pain relievers that have ibuprofen (say: eye-byoo-PROH-fuhn) and naproxen (say: nuh-PROK-suhn ). You should still talk to your parents/guardian and doctor before taking these. For some medicines, you will need a doctor’s prescription (order).
Your doctor may suggest diuretics (say: deye-yoo-RET-ihks), which help your body get rid of extra fluid. This can help with symptoms like bloating and breast soreness. Sometimes, a doctor will suggest birth control pills to help with hormones that can affect PMS. If you’re having strong emotional symptoms, a doctor may also suggest antidepressants. Remember that it can help to talk about your emotions and get support from your family and friends.

I gain 3-5 pounds the week to week and a half before and normally 1 or 2 on the first day, but then they all melt off again by the end.0

I gain it during my ovulation week instead of my TOM. I gain 4-8lbs during my ovulation week. I have endometreisos so its bad!0

I've gained as much at 10 pounds overnight! Usually ranges between 2 and 5 though. I find drinking lots of water helps keep the gain down! When my weight loss is going well, I only stall at TOM, but lately it's been at least a 1 pounds gain. If I don't get my water around that time, I'll gain more!0
