Hi I'm Zara,

BBQ and salad season is upon us, and I'd still like to indulge but in a healthy way. Please give me your low calorie salad dressings and meat marinades...

Thankyou :flowerforyou:

Hi Zara :) Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I love Tony Chachere's injectible meat marinades. They are pricey, but calorie-free and absolutely delicious. I use the cajun butter variety on chicken when I cook it in my rotisserie. Yummy!

We recently picked up some Grandma Koyote's sugar-free BBQ sauce at whole foods. Only 10 cals per serving, but also very pricey. It was really good when used with ribs in the crock pot.

    Hope these are helpful. :)

For low(er) calories salad dressing, I really enjoy the Fat Free stuff from Maple Grove Farms and I also really like the Bolthouse Farms Yogurt based dressings. Both brands seem to use all natural ingredients, are lower in calories, and actually taste good. The Bolthouse Farms Ranch and Blue Cheese varieties are wonderful and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Maple Grove Farms Balsamic!

I like a little balsamic vinegar on salad. If you like something a little thicker, then there are quite a few nice balsamic based dressings in the shops or you can make your own.
There are lots of recipes online.

    Here's one
    4 tbsp Olive Oil
    1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
    1/2 clove crushed garlic (optional)
    Salt and Pepper
Oregano or mixed herbs, or a tiny bit of mustard

I mix olive oil, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, and black pepper in the blender and use it to marinate my chicken. I usually eyeball it, but I think I use about 1/3 cup of olive oil and 1-2 lemons worth of juice/zest.

Edit: You could also add salt, but I don't because I try to limit my sodium (try being the operative word lol).
