HELP! Trouble losing weight while breastfeeding.

Hello, I am a mother of 4 wonderful children and our last baby is almost 7 months old now. For some reason, this time I am having a terrible time losing weight. I have hypothyroidism and my thyroid was really off but it's in the normal range now and even with regular exercise and staying within my calorie intake, I am still not losing any weight. I have at least 40 pounds to lose and I am just really not knowing what to do. I have been eating about 1,800 calories a day and either walking 2 miles a day or doing The Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout DVD for my workouts 5-6 days a week. Any help or advice is very much appreciated. THANK YOU!

Jessica

First of all, take a deep breath. You can lose the weight, it just requires a lot of patience. You've got two things making it more difficult. But, you won't be breastfeeding forever, so enjoy that time while you have it, even if it makes weight loss frustrating.

How many calories you eat is kinda relative, because MFP sets amounts based on how much you weigh and how fast you want to lose. You can drop your calories a little, but don't go too low. You need to stay healthy and strong.

I'm going to send you a link to the hypo/hyperthyroidism group we have on MFP. If you haven't joined, I encourage you to do so and to repost your question there. More folks with hypothyroidism who have breast fed may see it there and have some good advice. I wasn't officially diagnosed with hypothyroidism until after I'd stopped nursing my youngest so the only advice I have is what I said earlier - a deep breath and patience.
