HRM chest-strap question

Has anybody ever had this happen to them, you wet the chest-strap, put it on and then get sidetracked for quarter of an hour or something and by the time you start your workout and want to start recording, the strap has dried and so the heartbeat cannot be picked up?

If so, have you found a way around this, what did you do?

Although I just re-wet the strap, that is okay when at home for a training session, but it could be a bit awkward if, for instance, I was waiting for a race to start and it dried whilst I am waiting at the starting line lol.

if it was at a raceline, I'd hopefully have a water bottle, and just squirt some over me - though that'd probably make me look a loon lol :) If I had no water - I'd borrow someone elses, and that would be even weirder ;)

spit on your fingers and wet it..

If your in a race, chances are most people there will understand what you are doing.

Water bottle! Dang I forgot about that, also could pour water on my hands instead of spitting on them and wetting it that way too.

    Thanks peeps! :))

I'd be very surprised if anyone had a dry chest waiting at the start of a race unless they hadn't warmed up.

The water bottle idea is good (right up to the point where some yahoo yells "wet t-shirt contest! " )

I guess I just sweat pretty easily bc I've never had that problem - even after putting it on, doing other things (driving to gym) and then working out. I'm not necessarily sweating then but it is ready to go when I hit start.

Mine has never stopped working. I put it on about 2 hours before my half marathon and it was fine! Shrug.

I had an issue with connectivity with an old chest strap, and I found that using petroleum jelly (vaseline, whatever) worked great. I would apply it directly to the strap, then wet it, then put it on, and never had any more problems with it. I reapplied the petroleum jelly for each use.

I have never had this problem either. I guess I just stay sweaty all the time. LOL

I use a Polar Bluetooth HRM, and the strap is all fabric. So it doesn't dry out quickly AT ALL. When I wash the thing, I have to hang it overnight for it to dry completely. I usually put mine on at home or before leaving work, then head to the yoga studio. I get there 45 min to an hour later, and it's still good to go.

Just to be clear, I know connectivity is not your specific issue of concern hear, but I bet this would work for a dry body as well.

Does the petroleum jelly not clog up, does it wash off easily in the washing machine after every half a dozen training sessions?
