How to lose the last bit of fat

Hey myfitnesspal friends,

I am a cycling and runner (recently started this one). I do about 2 hours of cardio every day for training for my cycling, and throw some running in there every day or two for more cardio strength.

With this program I was able to lose 20 lbs in the last 2 months with an intense workout schedule and healthy eating. Now, I'm at the point where I can't lose the last bit of fat on my stomach. I don't want to start losing muscle trying to lose this last bit of fat.

If anyone has any insight on this let me know. I am an athlete and am looking to be around 6-8% body fat, but have been having trouble getting to that point. Right now I am 5'10" and 158 lbs.

If you're an endurance athlete, then chances are that you have already lost lean muscle. Lifting weights will raise your RMR (which steady state cardio doesn't do) and help to burn more fat, but to keep lean muscle from being reduced you also have to be in positive nitrogen balance.

Oh yes, I'm already aware of that. I do lifting 3-4 times per week to keep the lean muscle I already have. I guess my question might be more of a diet question rather than an exercise and fitness question. This is my first time in the forums and I didn't see the nutrition forum.

If this fat is around your stomach, it's more of a genetic thing of how fat is distributed throughout the body. I would just say keep working at your workouts and healthy eating. You could also invest in a fat-burner supplement from any fitness nutrition store that could help lose up to 10 pounds of that stubborn fat with a proper workout schedule and diet.

Agree with both the above posts, perhaps throw in some CLA to help. Increase your intensity and decrease your duration of your cardio for 2 sessions a week. The last part is always the toughest but keep focused on the end goal and I'm sure you'll get there. Good luck
