Look, if something works. It works.
I weigh about 215lbs, 6'2". So that adds to the information listed below.
I walk at a fast pace (4.1 -4.3) on various inclines. I start out from 0-3 minutes on a 3 incline. At the 3 minute mark, i go up to a 6 incline for three minutes. At the 6 minute mark, i go up to 9 incline for three minutes. At the 9 minute mark i go up to a 12 incline. At the 12 minute mark i go up to a 15 incline.
I stay at the 15 incline for 6 minutes. Then, at the 18 minute mark i go back down to a 12 incline. Then work my way down and back up every three minutes in a 'Snake' format. I stop at 60 minutes and then do the cool down.
I have found this works really well for me, because i get bored really easily, even watching tv or listening to my iPod. Because is basically changes every three minutes, it gives me multiple 'mini-goals'.
I am fully aware that not everyone can do this routine at that speed or incline. But a variation of that format to your abilities will burn a tremndous amount of calories in a relatively short amount of time.
Anyways, it is working wonders for me. If it doesn't work for you, that's fine. Just thought i would share the routine.
Hope all is well back in the states.

Sounds like a cool idea! I get bored easily on the treadmill or elliptical as well so I will give it a try. Thanks!!0

I also sometimes change it up...
I will do it for 18 minutes...go do another exercise or two, then do 18 more minutes...then another break. Then 18 more.
The great thing about it is that you can break it up or midify it however you want. Dependant on your time or motivation, you can tinker with it and still lose a lot of calories.0 -
I do something similar on the elliptical machine which is how I burn over a 1000 calories when I'm on there. I start out with a 3 minute warm-up LV 5 Incline 5...I move the Incline up from 7-9-10-11 every six minute or so. Then I do the max incline for 6 minutes and work my way down changing the incline. I don't think I change the level often. I tend to keep it at 5.
Be safe over there!0 -
you know for some reason I kept thinking you meant you were on the ground in afghanistan walking. hehe But thats a good tip I dont like doing the same one thing on the elliptical or treadmill. I usually try to vary it so my time is better spent.0
