Bright RED face... does it get better?

Since I was a kid (never been athletic) my face turns bright red when I exert myself. Is this because I am chunky? I mean, I know it will probably always be red/pink because I'm very fair skinned... but will it always turn fire engine red, or does that get better with conditioning? Anyone notice a change? I hope...? :blushing:

    Hey,

I dont know for sure, but I can let you know my experience with it. I know my whole family (except my dad) gets the red face when they work out. I think it might be genetic, but then again it's hard to say.

When I first started working on my cardio a couple months ago to get ready for this up and coming cycling season my face would get bright red, then after the workout turn kind of blotchy in spots with the red fading. But, after 3 months of intense cardio activity it decreased. I think this might be because it is reduced with cardio endurance.

My dad is an athlete, which might be the reason his face doesn't get red.

    Peter

P.S. - don't let it embarrass you, let it impress other people. :):)

It does get better! I took a picture of how red my face was, once - it was just that comical. Now it's much better. :)

It should, as the capillaries in your face adapt to the extra blood being pumped into them. :-)

I get so red (like furnace red) faced every time I work out hard and although it's calmed down a bit the fitter I've become, it's never gone away! Just something you get used to. Try not to think about it too much and don't let it stop you pushing yourself.

Everyone is different..but for me I have always gotten a BRIGHT RED face. Even when I was in the best shape of my life as a collegiate athlete. But my one best friend, her redness dimished as she got in better shape.but you know what? it lets people know you just busted your *ss working out and gave everything you got.......

Mine face used to get super-red when I was younger. It still gets red now, though not quite as bad. Hopefully, as you get in better shape it will get better for you. However, as one poster said, it lets people know that you have been busting your *kitten*.

Mine turns bright red too. I like to say it's proof of how hard I'm working

Mine always gets red. Hasn't changed yet! I'm pretty redfaced when I get back from a run - especially if it is warm outside. I have very fair skin and some freckles though, so it just goes with the complexion.

Oh, I know what you mean, I feel your pain. Mine gets really red as well, when I was fit and now that I have gained all this weight. My Mom is the same way so I think part of it might be genetics. I hate it though! When I finish my zumba class, my face is so red, it looks like it's going to bust, then I look at other people around me and some are only a little flushed, drives me crazy.

to be safe I would just make sure your blood pressure isnt high. One of the symptoms of high blood pressure is red face/ red ears.

    Good luck!!

I'm very fair-skinned and my face turns bright red (I swear, almost purple) every time I work out. It has my whole life, even when I was in amazing shape as a varsity athlete. My dad gets it too, so I think its genetic. It's embarassing because I will never be one of those cute girls at the gym, haha, but oh well.
  • I also get a bright red face whenever I do cardio. It made me worry because I thought it was caused by my heart rate getting too high and not getting enough oxigen. I never felt dizzy or anything like that. Everybody's body is different and reacts differently than others who also work out just as hard. Don't push yourself too hard though. If you ever do feel like you are getting dizzy, nausious, or feel like you are about to pass out then you need to slowly stop and rest. Don't forget to drink plenty of water too :drinker:

When I was out of shape, I would get really red faced, but not sweat. Now when I run I get a little flushed, but I'm covered in sweat. I'm pretty fair skinned as well.

Whatever you do, don't let it stop you from getting fit!

My face also turns bright red with exercising. I have always blushed easily also. Maybe a connection?
  • redder it is the more blood is pumping , the more blood pumping the harder your working?

Working hard is a good thing

Therefore a red face has got to be a good thing eh :)

I used to turn fire engine red as well when I was out of shape but it has improved- but I'm very fair skinned and still get quite flushed when I really exert myself. I've also noticed that the level of heat and humidity present during the workout impacts this too.

My face always gets really red when I exercise and stays that way for a while afterwards. It doesn't seem to matter what weight I am or anything. Sorry. ;)

Not for me. The fitter I become the quicker it goes away though.

I just started avoiding mirrors during and after work-outs...

Mine always goes bright red... I don't sweat very much, so this is how I know that I have really pushed myself.

Mine also gets very red. I'm pretty fair skinned and some family members also get this way. BTW to the person who said to have your blood pressure checked, mine has always been 110/70 so I wouldn't worry about that much. I have noticed it getting better as I get more fit but I'm still pretty red.

My face has always gotten beat red when I work out, even when I was super athletic and played sports. Back in my school days it was so embarassing, now I just live with it....take it in. It's a sign of a good workout. As long as I have plenty of water, I'm ok with it.

Mine still goes bright red even though I am fairly fit these days! The worst is on the treadmill- I cannot even do 10 minutes of intervals without glowing like a beetroot afterwards. Glad to know others have the same problem:happy:

I'm fair skinned with the same problem as well! Staying very well hydrated throughout the day and during workouts is very important for this. Also, wearing light clothing that breathes well, including good shoes and socks will help keep your temperature down. I run in the mornings when it's cooler out so the heat doesn't bother me too much. All that fresh air and a nice breeze! But like others here have said, I've just learned to wear it like a badge of honor. It shows people how hard I'm working! No worries, you're not the only one :)
