    Hello,

I'm not sure how to help. Do you have a specific question?

I use the site to track my calories and I like to read the message boards to learn helpful tips and stay motivated.

I found this site and joined right away. I guess I am a little overwhelmed right now trying to figure out how to get around the site. I am going to try to do it and see if it helps me stay on track. Thanks for your reply.

Ok, I have joined here about 6 months ago and have done nothing, I think I weigh more than when I joined. I can't stay on a diet and need to so badly. After deciding to try again today I got on the community board and decided to ask someone to be my friend and maybe help me do this. I would have someone to be acountable to and maybe it would help! Please help!!

Yes, pretty much. I have fought weight all of my life. I have been to W.W. many, many times and have been at goal weight twice. I have been to Quick Weight Loss, Nutra System and have counted calories and know about calories. I also know about carbs which is very hard for me, because I love carbs. I had lost 9 pounds and was doing good but had major problems in my life and dieting was done when I have other things to worry about. I can't stop eating and am just getting fatter and fatter and feeling more horrible everyday!! I just can't seem to do this anymore. I think I have just been on a diet to many times in my life and am so tired of it. Gee, I am so sorry to lay this all on you when all you did was ask a simple question. I hope I can get this done because thin is so much better than fat!!!

Girl- I know about stress! I have eaten for stress relief for 25 years. Only thing is the stress never goes away. There is always something new to take it's place. I got a wakeup call Jan 29, 09 when I shot my fasting blood sugar up to 169, diabet range. I gave up sugar and carbs (bad ones) as mush as possible. I was addicted to sugar. Sugar just makes you hungrier. I gave up diet pop cause I have heard for years that it make you hungrier. after a couple of days it got easier. I am enjoying the new way of eating! I love MFP to keep me accountable. I have not exceeded a days calorie intake since starting July 11th. That means a full day of calories, not my weight loss goal. Most days I am under on that, but we need a day here and there, although keeping control, to enjoy a little more. That is exciting cause I know I'm not putting calories back onto my boday! Since I haven't eaten right for all my 58 years, I am truly excited. I feel so great taking off 42 lbs and can't wait to take off another 1 to be at 239! I truly thank God for the strength to do this!
So think about those grandkids that you want to love and be healthy for! You'll get a chance to teach them and be around for hugs and kisses!:smooched: :smooched: :flowerforyou: So- Go girl! You can do it!!:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

    Welcome :)

Let me tell you what my husband and I are doing. I use him as an example because he is (was) obese and has been that way for most of his life. He is tired of it and doing great in our new lifestyle. I just quit smoking two months ago and am determined not to gain weight in the process, and instead, to lose the 30 lbs I need to.

    * We log our calories. Every single bite/drink/condiment/oil/dressing/etc....
    * We don't try to rush it. We set our goals small so we can live up to them. Mine is 1 pound a week and his is 1/2 pound.
    * We work out but we also veg out. I work out 3x a week and the other three I can sit on my behind and watch TV if I want. However, when I work out, I work out HARD. I make it count. We eat part or all of our exercise calories.
    * We allow ourselves a cheat night once a month. We go out to eat and don't worry about how many calories are in what we eat (we can, but we can also choose not to).
    * We pre-plan our meals. Log in everything you plan to eat today...and calculate in a dessert or something else if that being without that is what you find makes you fail. For me, I LOVE my ice cream. So I set aside 250 calories a day for my bowl of ice cream every evening. It makes the sacrifices worth it.
    * We eat small meals every 3 hours, instead of big ones every 6. That way we always know food is just around the corner and we never get to that positively-starving-will-eat-anything-in-reach stage.
    * We are both borderline type 2 diabetics, so we count carbs and try to eat only healthy ones with lots of fiber included. Whole wheat, brown rice, etc.
*We eat much of our food natural and unprocessed. Eggs, fruit, veggies, chicken, beef straight from the farmer's co-op/market. And yet, we let ourselves have the occasional splurge (cinnamon rolls for breakfast yesterday!!)...but it's planned and within our calorie allotment for the day.

Remember the reasons you failed in the past and do things differently this time. If never having sweets was an issue, then let yourself have some. If no carbs was a problem, then eat a little bit with each meal/snack. If you look at this as a lifestyle change and not just a diet that you will quit once you've reached your goals, then it's much easier to manage. There is no rush to get there...:flowerforyou:
