I think I've overdone it this time! I've been exercising all week, jogging with friends for about an hour every day to get started but this morning I woke up in agony. I've really damaged my ankle and I'm finding it difficult to move about.

Anyone have any gentle exercises that I could try out? Or should I just take the day off and put my feet up? Thanks

Take the day off and elevate that ankle!

Yikes! I would take the day off, ice it, and see a doctor!

I just asked a question about running after an injury as well.

DO NOT run/jog on your injured/painful ankle! I haven’t been able to jog for over a month b/c I injured myself….and probably will be another few weeks before I can start again. You don’t want to be put down for that long, plus it hurts…!

Rest/Ice (15min on, then let everything warm back up to normal temperature, then repeat). There are very few running injuries where you can simply ‘run through the pain’. Don’t go back to your jogging routine until you are completely pain free…and you may not be able to pick up where you left off (ie. Start back out slow) =D Good luck, hope it’s nothing serious.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just sit this day out :)

Take some type of anti inflammatory as well and drink lots of water.

Definitely take an easy! I have a weak right ankle, thanks to my repeat behavior of never letting it fully recover. (I even boulder-ed for half an hour after badly spraining once...) RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) for the first two days, then - depending on how serious it is - nothing too crazy for 2-3 weeks if it's still wonky...and this is where I always fail, you're still supposed to hold back from 100% normal for 1-2 months and use an ankle support or brace.

I used to do the whole letters of the alphabet thing to gently move it around. Write the capital letters of the alphabet with your big toe in the air a couple of times.
