diet aids or natural weight loss what do you do

I have set my mind to do this weight loss journey with out any diet aids ( body by vi, slim fast, sensa, A.C.E, hydroxycut, slim quick etc) I am paranoid that they are going to trash your heart not matter how "natural" they claim to be! I am joined a weight loss group here in town and have seen lots of people wanting to or already using the above listed products. What is your opinion (I'm not going to dog on you one way or another) I just am wondering if I'm the only one who thinks its healthier to do it on your own even though it may take longer?

Natural is the ONLY way. Takes patience, but it's the only way we'll ever learn how to get fit and stay fit for life. I take a multivitamin, but even that's probably unnecessary. Work hard, eat healthy, repeat, repeat, repeat... :flowerforyou:0

i think natural will "teach" you more in the long run than using diet aids to lose weight.0

Learning self-control is they only way to stay healthy for the rest of your life. All these people who go for a quick-fix without changing their habits will put the weight back on (plus some more after messing with their metabolism).
If you still want to be healthy ten years from now, only YOU can do that, by a change in your lifestyle.0 -
you do not need any of those things. you need to eat less than you are burning. it really is very simple. those are products people use because they think they are miracle cures. they are not. If you think about it the body by vi idea is nothing new. you are simply replacing a meal with a shake...chances are the shake is a lot less calories than the meal you are replacing it with. so guess what? you just ate less calories which you could have done without the shake. the only thing I agree with about body by vi is the protein aspect which is good if you are building muscle.
multivitamin is an excellent addition though.0 -
I think that although it might take longer the natural way it is the only way to do weight loss. Sure you might lose 10 lbs quickly on a pill but you will likely gain it back. Not to mention those pills can really mess with your body and make you jittery and all around weird feeling. I think the best long term solution is just to eat a healthy well rounded diet and work out at least 4 times a week doing whatever you like. We will all get there in time if we just put in a lot of hard work0

why a 200 situp challenge?0 -
Natural all of the way because I am not on a diet. This is a lifestyle change for me.0

I use to be one to jump on the diet fad and diet pill boat, but learned my lesson . it dosnt work you gain the weight right back. So this time around Im doing it the right way. 3 months in and 18 pounds down, Slow and steady Exercise and eating healthy. so far so good.0

Considering the only way to lose weight is with a calorie deficit, and there is only one way to have a calorie deficit, and I don't care to spend money on stupid **** (except for cool stupid ****, that's different) I personally avoid such things.0

I eat, I exercise, I don't even take allergy pills on a regular basis. I think that most "diet aids" are *kitten* gimmicks and a waste of money and the ones that may help you see results generally have some crazy side effects (anal leakage comes to mind). If you read the bottle it generally says "with this pill, plus a diet and exercise program you can see fast results!" Guess what, whatout that and with a diet and exercise program you should see the same results. And the ones that do "work" don't encourage you to change your lifestyle, so as soon as you stop taking them all that weight is just sitting there waiting to come back on. A lot of them are actually caffine pills, and I like to drink my caffine.0

Definitly the natural way!!0

I do it with natural, whole foods and some dietary supplements (protein shakes, etc.) The supplements I use (primarily Herbalife) are all-natural and made from real food, so I feel very safe with them. So far it's been a great plan - I've dropped 55 pounds and 4 sizes since last summer.0

I watched my mom try every weight loss fad she could find and she always gained all the weight back and then some. She has been obese most of her life, and the only time she ever lost a significant amount of weight was by doing WW and race walking. Unfortunately she gave that up and gained the weight back. My sister swung the other way with anorexia/bulemia and laxatives. Seeing what they did to their bodies is enough to make me never do anything like that. I exercise regularly, log my calories, and make good food choices. I've also educated myself about what kinds of food are actually healthy, since I didn't grow up eating nutritious food.0

Doing it the natural way forces you to make good choices and learn good habits, which means you'll be less likely to put the weight back on.0

Lifestyle modification (exercise and paying attention to what I eat). The vast majority of OTC diet aids are ineffective, some dangerous, and don't help you learn how to make changes that are sustainable.
It's easy to understand the allure though, the mainstream media helps perpetuate the notion that some of these products are of benefit and many overweight people are looking for a quick fix.0 -
I'm going "natural" with the aid of water, lower calories, and exercising! Lost 40lbs so far, 60 more to go!! Add me if you wish!0
-
I don't rely on any extra help for my weightloss - it is all natural with alot of hardwork and dedication. Now, I will say I do have a slimfast sometimes for breakfast, but I don't rely on the slimfast diet to lose weight. I have been counting calories and exercising for 16 months. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
I fully believe that all those other ways are just a "quick fix" - sure it will help you get the weight off, but once you stop using the product the weight will come back on. If you don't train yourself and learn what to eat and not to eat, you won't learn anything. JMO.0 -
I agree all natural is the way to go.... and lots of patience0
-
I'll put it very simple: Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day but stay under calorie limit, and do exercises. (weight training combined with moderate cardio)0

why a 200 situp challenge?

so you are doing it for core strength rather than trying to lose belly fat. that's great0 -
I agree natural is the best. Some of those products like supplements once you stop. you gain the weight back and sometimes double!0
-
Yeh this is a lifestyle change
and this has nothing to do with how "healthy" or not healthy it would be
Aids won't teach you anything at all except how to gain it back twice as fast
this is something you need to continue for the rest of your life0 -
I just started body by vi, but before now i've also been using this time to teach myself about portion control, managing my carbs, and making sure that I am counting my calories. Teaching me this stuff first was necessary for me. now that i'm better about it (albeit not perfect) I feel more comfortable using body by vi to help me along the journey.
What ever you chose to do, i would suggest a multi-vitamin just to make sure you get your micro-nutrients since almost all people are deficient in some form or another.0 -
Take it one day at a time. It is the only thing that you can do. You will make mistakes and you will feel like a HUGE failure sometimes but NEVER give up.
It will get better and you will lose weight.....no gimmicks or tricks just hard work that is the only way to do it!!
Good luck!!0 -
Definitely go natural. I tried some weight loss pill years ago and will never touch that stuff again. I ended up returning it because I got so awful sick that I couldn't get out of bed to take my kids to school in the morning. The kids actually had to stay home and watch more tv than usual just because I did something foolish.
Natural really does work and can even give you impressive results, especially at first. It's worked for me before but I got off track. It's a lifestyle change. Lots of veg & fruit help. Green Smoothies are a good thing to try to add in - they taste good, super high nutrition and really give you energy.
Good luck and feel free to friend me - I'm new here0 -
Currently im using a meal replacement drink called shakeology, im using it to just replace my breakfast.
Im also using HCG (yes i know all that crap people say about it so please spare me and dont try to tell me else wise)
As for the shakeology, i have noticed that it does keep me full until my break which is all i really ask for in a breakfast item.0 -
I do not trust or believe in quick fix/diet aids. Natural trains your body to burn fat and fuel more efficiently. It is definitely slower but the results last forever as long as you stay active. It took me almost a year and a half to get down to me natural, healthy body weight but the advantage is I now have to eat MORE to NOT lose more weight. Even though I usually don't eat "unhealthy" stuff I can basically eat what I want ... and I did not give up my one treat - BEER.
Patience is not easy in the beginning but it pays off in the end. If you can try not to weigh yourself more than once a month. As you progress through this journey you will FEEL the difference in your clothes which does not always translate to seeing lower numbers on the scale ... because you are gaining muscle.0 -
If there were a magic pill or shake there would be no MFP, because we'd all be at a healthy weight. Dedication and hard work will not only make you healthy but will keep you healthy.0
