exercise calories - WHEN to eat them?

I usually just have a snack a while before going for a run, and then afterwards a protein shake and banana, and that'd take care of most the calories.
But the other day, i ate too much the day before, and running was way easier than usual the next day. So i am wondering if eating the calories before exercise (quite some time before) would make sense?

any thoughts?

I know runners who always 'fuel up' on pasta or something high carbs 12 hours before a race. I guess thats similar to this? I know I feel better working out after a fast (so I do it first thing in the morning) but I also have more energy if I had a bigger meal the night before.

    Maybe it's different for everyone?

You gotta feed the machine. If you are feeling better and running easier after a big calorie day it may be time to up your cals a bit. If your hungry, eat. I have days where I am just not hungry enough to eat back my exercise cals and then there are days where I need every one!

    When you're hungry?

I try not to eat exercise calories before a workout, because I never know if I'll actually get to follow through on my workout. But if you are really good about exercise, I don't see why you couldn't eat them before the workout!
