Foam roller?

Options
I've been having some hip & knee pain that I attribute to my IT band, so I picked up a foam roller today. Tried it out... Ouch! My question is how often should I be using it? Just after my runs, once a day, several times a day?

I got a foam roller for Christmas and didn't know how to use it. Turned out that my gym offers a foam roll class, which showed me the proper techniques and it was awesome. I only do it after a workout

    Maybe there are demos online?

There are tons of demos online - just google it. I love my foam roller and use it daily.

I know how to use it, just wondering how often is ideal. :)

Per p90x2, basically every workout! I had an appointment with a "rolfer" today and he was telling me that people often attribute pain to IT band tightness when it's more often hamstrings. Just a thought.

I'd use it whenever you have tightness. I use mine multiple times a day on my upper back.
    love it.

A related question...I've been looking into getting a foam roller. What brand would you recommend? What should I look for?

I had IT band issues last year - missed 6 weeks of running. I ended up seeing a massage therapist and she had me running again in 2 sessions. PM me if you need links to IT band stretches etc.

She has me using the foam roller after every run.
