Calories burned on treadmill?

My treadmill doesn't give me an acurate caloric count, as there is no way to enter my weight. Treadmill always gives me a pretty high number, but if I enter my exercise into MFP it doesn't take into account that I did my walk/jog on an incline and I think that number is too low. I want to make sure that I am entering the amount of calories burned into MFP as accurate as possible. This was the main reason for joining MFP to keep track of my exercise, the food diary was an added bonus.

For example tonight I did 5 incline at 4-4.7(jogging) mph for 60 minutes. Any suggestions for calculating my exercise more accuratley then the treadmill and MFP? Also, I ended up doing four plus miles.

Any help or suggestion would be most appreciated.

Thanks, just want to keep it real:)!

  • I suggest you buy a good Heart Rate Monitor, for example from Polar or Garmin. Also a lot of people use the FitBit. All of them calculate calories reasonably accurately.

Get a heart monitor that calculates calories, and allows you to imput weight and age. Polar makes some good ones, my dad just bought the FT4 and loves it. There are also some calculators online that allow you to in age, weight, and average heart reate (if your tradmill gives you that).
  • Thanks for the suggestions! I will for sure check those out!

I was having similar problems, and doing a lot of at-home workouts. I bought an HRM about 2 weeks ago, and I am absolutely in love with it. No more guessing. The one I got was a Polar FT4; I didn't want to spend a TON of money; got it on Amazon for like $65ish.
  • All good suggestions! Thanks! Sounds like these products will take the guess work out of calories burned.
