I'm almost finished my first and had a weight gain. I was depressed and wanted to cry. I tried hard but my metabolism has been non- existent since my mid twenties. Looking for friends just starting out who may be having the same problems and want some motivation.

OK I'm not just starting out but everyone needs help/motivation. I haven't been able to workout in a month because of back pain I'm going to see a specialist on monday so hoping I can get this fixed soon. So if you want a friend ADD ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We can do this girl.

I'm somewhat in the same boat. My first couple of weeks I dropped a few pounds and then got on the scale and I had gained back those few pounds. Try not to let the scale discourage you! I am slowly but steadily increasing my exercise and activity level and the weight is (very, very) slowly coming off. It's going to take a while to get our metabolism up but it will happen! Please feel free to add me as a friend too! Sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

If you are weight lifting or doing cardio (aerobics, etc., anything other than walking/ jogging)) you probably have put on muscle. This kind of weight gain is good, since more muscle means that your body burns off more calories, even when just sitting down watching TV.
Keep it up! This isn't a short-term thing, its a life-time thing. And if you do keep it up, you will have a much better life in the long-term, I promise!0 -
Hello, I haven't just started but I haven't lived up to the goals in my mind and the few friends I do have on here aren't able to be on as often or offer as much support as I need. I sound like a whiner, huh? LOL, but I do really enjoy the site and have lost a bit and I'd like to someone to support you and vice versa. I'm not weight loss or workout expert but I would try my best to help you and I could use the accountability myself. I'll add you and if you want to accept then, awesome! Good luck to you either way! It's hard at first, it always is, but if you're committed, you'll use this and work just as hard and you WILL get results.0

I had the same problem for the longest time. It may take a while for your body to get used to frequent exercise and a different diet, as well as gaining pounds from muscle from calisthenics. One good way to kick-start your metabolism is to eat more often. Divide the calories recommended for you into 5-6 (depending on access to food/exercise) smaller meals over the course of the day. Try to get at least a half hour of solid cardio in, eat a diet high in protein (any kind), low in fat, and medium in carbs, and you will definitely see a significant improvement in metabolism, as well as energy.
Worked for me, at least, lost 70 lbs in 8 months before I made an MFP account.
Best of luck!!0 -
I just started back recently on here also! I am always looking for new friends to help motivate and vise versa. It is totally frustrating to lose a little and then show a gain. Keep you head up! You can do this! Feel free to add me and anyone else reading this forum0

I have been using MFP for 10 weeks now. When I started out, I weighed 321 lbs! I just cried!!! Since day one of this, i have been very strict with sticking to my allowed calories. Just last week I started exercising. Which basically only consists of walking right now. It is hard to exercise when you are overweight and my knees are bad but I have lost 40.6 lbs in the last 10 weeks and my knees feel so much better. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! If I can, anyone can! Just be strict, with yourself. Don't go over your calories. Drink a lot of water. Try not to snack and eat a lot of sweets. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!! It is hard but it can be done. Big Hugs!0
