Plateau. Who has been stuck for a LONG time?

Hi. I am now on a 4 month long plateau. I have tried every plateau breaker known to man and still not busting through this thing. Just wondering how long this can continue. How long have you been stuck on a plateau and what finally broke it for you?

I was stuck for 3 months, dropped 10 pounds in 3 weeks, then gradually gained them back over 3 more months. But i've dropped 12 pounds this month, and it seems to be gradually creeping downwards. I went on a protein shake fast for a week, then back to regular food, and also cut back my workout schedule. Seems counter-intuitive, but it's working.

I had been on a stable weight, minus and plus two pounds for 3 months now. Am upping my calorie intake, am working out harder with different routines. I'm trying also to cut out most of my salt intake. I think it might be excessive.

I think the most important thing about getting out of a plateau that I have heard is to change what you are doing. Different moving, different and sometimes more food, more sleep, more water...

Good luck. Change something and tell us what happened!

A long time ago I did, when I was first trying to diet. I gave up. Now after talking to people (who work out, about it) because I fear the plateau, they told me to switch up my workouts n totally confuse the body. They say your body can get use to the diet and def your exercise.

I upped my daily calorie goal, dropped back just a bit on cardio (went from 45 -60 min to 30 min including cool d0wn) and am following the New Rules for lifting weights. I broke through the plateau with a 3 lb loss

going on 5 months now. i've tried dropping my calories, upping my calories, mixing up the work outs, drinking more water, nothing is helping... i've lost 2 inches overall in these 5 months, but not any weight. i'm getting discouraged, but if i give up, i'll definitely fail.

let me know if you find any solutions!

Yup! I have been stuck around 165-170 for the past 6 months. :( I have started more strength training recently and upping my protein and fibre intake as well. Hopefully this will push me past this. I can totally relate to how crummy it feels! Good luck!

Thanks. Thing is...I have done everything. I have changed my workouts, I've done workout breaks, I have increased calories, zigzagged calories, I sleep more, I watch my sodium, I drink my water, I've done maintenance for a while and then dropped calories again, I eat more protein, I eat healthy carbs. Hope it will break at some point.

i too haven't lost in 3 months. i upped my cals, increased my routine and changed it from treadmill to 30ds, 2 levels in a row... nada yet... it;s been 1 month on a different routine and more calories and nothing. not sure what else to do.. my sodium is good but i think i may need to start a protein shake daily as i'm always low in my protein no matter how hard i try..

Like you, I tried EVERYTHING! And I gave each plan time to work. Nothing ever did. I was stuck for about 6 months. I lost a very little bit in inches, but not enough to justify the frustration.

So...I took a break. I watched my calories but took a break from intense workouts. Mind you -- I didn't have a choice, I had to do this because of a physical limitation. Because I couldn't exercise, I paid close attention to my calories. All of sudden the pounds started to drop again.

I'm finally able to start exercising again....I am a bit nervous that the dreaded plateau will return.

Me. Since October 2011. Up a pound, down a pound. I've tried upping calories, lowering calories, exercising more, exercising less, drinking more, switching up routines, upping protein, restricting sugar, salt, carbs....you name it. All of the sudden one day I came to a screetching halt and haven't been able to lose anything. Measurements stayed the same too. Actually sat in the gym at work this morning on the verge of tears....I HATE weight training and it has not helped a bit.

Ready to call it quits. Guess my body likes this weight even if I don't. Only thing I haven't tried is more sleep, but with my work schedule (60 hours/wk) it is either sleep or work out and since I do still get a rush from working out, I forge ahead.

    hello kiponkicking!!

sounds to me according to your profile your trying to get rid the the last 10-15 pounds so it's a complete other game than losing weight when you have a lot of weight to lose! so your body is probably considering that your healthy!! as you said in your profile your BMI is around 25? and your blood pressure is fantastic, diabetic situation is completely under control so your body is saying: well i'm happy this way i'm healthy!!! I would suggest your read : making the cut by jillian michaels book it's for these stubborn 10-20 last pound that your trying to shed!!

    hope I helped!!

lucky you! i'm nowhere near that situation! and congratulation! you lost over 100 pounds! it's amazing!

    i'll reach that too!

I've been in a plateau for a few months. I've only lost 20 lbs in 8 months and I am so frusterated. I am acctually up 4 lbs this week and I've been following a good calorie deficit, drinking 3 liters of water a day and excercising 5x a week. I am refuse to give up though! As much as I am depressed about it gotta keep pluggin away and just hope I can loose at least 15 more pounds.
  • same here. havent lost any weight since last summer. tried everything you've all said in here. purchased an HRM online it should be here soon. thought maybe i was under/overestimating my calorie burn. so hopefully that will work because im in a weight loss challenge for my zumba class and i need to lose the weight.
