Does anyone take this med and has struggled with weight gain because of it? I have slowly gained over the past few years of taking it (It is the only effective med for me ...I could be skinny without it, but I would probably be commited lol).
I am sloooowly losing but it is a huge battle!

Gosh, I am sorry to hear that you need this, but good to hear that it is working for you.

I had to look up what it is. It didn't indicate that weight gain is a side effect of this stuff. Do you think that it might be the underlying condition, rather than the medication that leads to weight gain? ie if you find it hard to get out and do things that might be what causes a weight problem rather than the drug. Does your doctor think there might be some drug out there that agrees with you better?

Have you talked to your doctor about switching to Pristiq? It's almost the same drug. I switched to it just recently. I went off effexor 2 years ago cold turkey and my depression/anxiety got really bad so I needed something. THis new one is working miracles!

when I last came off the effexor i lost close to 100 pounds ...I do need the drugs, it's a chemical condition for me... it won't change. Maybe I will see if there is anything out there that is equally as good. Lots of folk pile on weight with the drug ...I am active ...I have 5 kids and a very busy life...my body just seems to absorb fat floating around in the air I think.

I'm on it and some other drugs. I also gained weight. And lost weight when I went off it and got depressed. Depression was not worth it. Asking your doctor about alternatives is a good idea. I actually tend to think that part of depression for me is eating too little so I figure meds help me stay healthy in many ways and I need to work hard on the nutrition and fitness regardless of the medicine. But I don't even play a doctor on TV
