Group Fitness... HELP!

I recently joined a gym (yay!) and I really wanna (in my head) join in a few of the Group Fitness classes (Some of them look AWEsome!!) But for some reason I am intimidated to go thru the door and actually GO to the class. I think it's because I am totally uncoordinated - but why should that realistically stop me... everyone's got to start somewhere, right? This is what I keep telling myself - but I still don't go in. ARG - I frustrate myself sometimes

Just do it Sometimes I go and realize it's harder than I thought...no one minds if you stop for a breather0

I can totally relate, I'm so uncoordinated and typically just end up frustrated, but I have found if you can laugh at yourself, you will be good. I was approached to join a boot camp at my gym and thought "what the heck". It hasn't been too bad, I do struggle sometimes, but I just laugh and move on. The boot camp is more of a station setup though, so you aren't trying to keep us with others all doing the same thing at the same time. Pump yourself up and join one, you won't know until you try. :laugh:0

No one walks into those classes a pro! And no one will be focused or worrying about you because they will be focused on making sure they control their two left feet.0

Good Point... Thanks0 -
I was in the same boat when I joined my gym. I'm also very unco, but wanted to give the group fitness thing a try. I went to a few different classes and found which ones I was totally hopless at and which ones I could do without ending up on my butt lol. It's a matter of just trying a few different classes to find the ones that are right for you, and of course being able to laugh at yourself.0

I certainly have NO PROBLEM laughing at myself... I love to laugh, and I am usually a good subject0 -
I really hope you tried a class. It's one of the most nurturing environments for growth. I teach several classes and I was a participant for years before becoming an instructor. I have met so many fantastic people and changed my life completely because of group fitness classes.0

I LOVE group fitness classes! I tend to work harder in them but they are scary until you get comfortable. Just go a little early so you can pick out a spot at the back of the class where you can watch others to follow along. A lot of instructors will recognize that you are new to the class so they'll explain moves more throughly and demonstrate. It's alright if you don't do everything right as long as you're moving!
I'm such a clutz that it's hilarious! Once I even fell over my step in step class....like on my butt! You just laugh and keep going! :-)0 -
My suggestion is to find a friend to join your gym and the both of you go to the class together. Get there early enough to go to the back of the room, so you don't feel like everyone behind you is watching you, etc. You can do this. The best thing is that once you start a class and change up your routine, it will jump start your body! I love classes because they push you more than you would yourself and before you know it, you've worked out an hour and you feel GREAT! If you're not able to get someone to join you, just go to the back and in the corner if that makes you feel better. I promise you, no one is in there to judge you. They are there for the same reason. If you can't do something in the class, stop and drink some water...just do the best you can. Let's go! You got this!0

I say go for it. You will eventually learn the moves and figure it all out. I felt that same way when I started doing Zumba, the instructor even laughed at me. I did not let that stop me. I eventually learned the moves and when she introduced a new song it took me a few times to get it, but I eventually got it.0
