Am I doing it right?

I use free weights at home three times a week for 20 to 30 minutes. I mostly work on upper arms and abs. I have early onset arthritis and I worry about how weight-bearing exercises will treat my knees so I avoid lower body work. Recently, I progressed from 5 lb dumbbells to 8 lb dumbbells, and I am beginning to develop tendonitis in my wrists. Is this an indication that there is a problem with my form? I do also have some ergonomic issues with how I use my personal laptop at home. If the pain continues, I may have to take a break from my strength training which I am not interested in doing. Any suggestions?

Wishing you well, and hope someone can point you in the right direction. :flowerforyou:0

Doing your weights in front of a mirror may help! If in doubt look it up. Everything is on the web!
Icing sore areas is a good idea! Good luck!0 -
If it really is tendonitis then you need to see a doc / physio to ensure it doesn't become chronic and is properly treated. I carry around niggling injuries with me from years ago as I has too pig headed to get help. Sh*ts like badly patterned luggage I don't want anymore.
It's not so much a question of form as warming up properly & stretching so incorporate that if you haven't already.
And as big a fan as I am of free / heavy weights there is too much stupidity attached to it when giving advice on these boards. Try resistance bands as an alternative. A large part of fitness for me is being injury free.0 -
You should take this question to your physician to find out if you are having a medically problem. If it is not a medical problem then you should make an appointment with a physical trainer to teach you the proper technique to avoid injuries.
