Should I change my goal

When I joined I put my goal to lose 1 lb per week, which is recommended, I wonder if I should alter this to 2lbs. I notice that quite a few of you are losing more than 1lb. May I ask what you folks have set yours on.

First: don't worry about what other people are doing. Different age, weight, fitness levels and a myriad of other things make a massive difference to how much someone can safely lose per week.

Second: if the ticker on your profile is accurate and you have 45 lbs to lose, a goal of 1 lb per week is just great for you. I see you've already lost 3 lbs, that's awesome! :)

I did not lose 3lb really. When I filled out the settings or whatever it is I put in my wrong weight by 2lbs. I had started to diet a week before I found this site. Going by what you say I will keep it at 1lb then. If I am lucky maybe I will lose more. It just seems that 45 weeks to get to my weight is ages away.

I just noticed have much you have lost that is really great. How long has it taken you?

It DOES feel like a really long time, I know. But it's also sustainable, and less likely to leave you hungry and miserable. If you're really antsy to get it off a bit quicker, by all means try a slightly higher deficit (maybe 1.5 lbs per week?) for a while and see how that feels to you, but slow and steady really does win this race :)

Here's some good guidelines that are often quoted on here:

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.

    Aw, thanks :)

I've been at this for 16 months, but took a 'break' for approximately 8 of those months to just maintain. My journey is a long one (wanting to lose 145 lbs in total!) and I felt it might be wise to give myself a break both physically from eating at a deficit and mentally from the "weight-loss mode" mindset. So dropping 87 lbs took about 8 months, but I started extremely obese and as such it was very easy in the beginning.

I think I will see how it goes for a month or so with my current settings. Thanks for you advice.
