Menopausal Women

I had surgical menopause a year ago. I've gained about 30lbs total. I've been on this site for a good 60 days, the most I've ever been able to lose is 6 pounds.
Is anyone else having problems with their hormones and weight loss?

It is more difficult to lose weight when going through the menopause and just after, but it definitely can be done.
It isn't the amount of calories that you eat that is the issue, but what you are eating that can scupper your weightloss.
Ensure you eat lost of fruit and veg, lots of protein, it keeps you full.
Don't skip meals, steer away from fastfood and takeaways, control is taken out of your hands regarding the ingredients in those foods.
Weigh everything, don't just use guesswork, you can be out by hundreds of calories if you do that and that alone can ruin your attempts.
Unless you are veggie, ensure you get your fair share of meat and fish and eggs.0 -
I am going through menopause right now. My doctor put me on continuous birth control pills to deal with the migraines and out of control cycles (kind of funny since my tubes have been tied for over 17 years now), and my weight has also gone way up - maxing out at 170 a couple of years ago. I am really, REALLY struggling just to maintain at 155, when I was always 130-135 before. (I'm 5'6") While everyone's suggestions have been helpful to a point, I've still not been able to get below 150 in the last 4 years.0

There are a few there who have surgery-induced menopause.0 -
I've been in menopause for 3 years now. I have noticed losing weight is not as easy as my pre menopausal days. I have lost 17 pounds and it has taken 70 days. I don't take any hormones. Not sure if taking any would help. Good luck0

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I have just increased my food intake from 1200 to 1400 calories (that's what MFP suggested) so we will see how that goes.
Thank you for the link I will definitely check that out.
I really hope that things will start to change.0 -
Stay active and lift weights to build your muscle to help your metabolism and bones!0

I've now reduced my sodium to 1500. I'm hoping by tweaking things that are hidden problems, will help with creating a balance and that confidence and lifting weights will help getting things to move.0
