Does anyone have any low cal ideas for something crunchy and chip like? I love salsa and dips in general but they're not as good if you just eat them with a spoon :)

Someone posted some chips where you buy corn tortillas, cut them up and bake them. It should be on the recipes thread?

I get the Mission thin corn tortillas and cut them into wedges and cook in toaster oven until crispy. It is 80 cals for 2 tortillas and they are low carb and sodium.

Also, you can use flax pitas or flatout for the same thing but those have higher sodium and carbs.

Ok, my thing is Andy Capp's Hot Fries. We buy a big box of 36 (I think) from Sam's. Each bag is 110 calories. They have less calories than most of the baked chips I was eating and they have that kick of hot I love so much :)

I must admit, some days I eat 2-3 little bags of these suckers, LOL

Air popped popcorn with a little salt and spray butter.
Quaker rice snacks. I'm partial to the sweet chili kind.
A friend of mine makes kale chips. I've yet to try them, but I want to sometime soon.

Special K Cracker Chips. For 110 calories, you can have 30 chips. They are a decent size too.

I bought some "veggie straws" at Costco -- you can have 38 of them for 130 calories. The ingredients say that they are made from potato flakes and flavored with vegetables and a little salt. You could probably have some dip or salsa with them. I'm not a huge chip eater, but the sample lady at Costco reeled me in this weekend, and they make a good snack.

Tried something new at Trader Joe's you might check out.

It's by Calbee and they are called "Snapea Crisps" Baked Original Flavor. Talk about crunchy, they're the best! First ingredient is green peas, they are shaped like Sugar Snap Peas and have a great flavor of peas. Sound strange? Yea scared me a bit when I picked them up but another customer nearby shared how great they were, so I got some and we all loved them.

YUM-O A regular crunchy item from now on for my Trader Joe grocery list! They are in chip section.

Take a whole grain pita bread and cut it into wedges. Spread them out on a baking tray and spray with Pam or whatever cooking spray you like, sprinkle with sea salt or seasonings or cinnamon. Bake at 400degrees and watch carefully cause it doesn't take long. Deeeelish! :smooched:
