so on all nutrition labels it says "2000 calorie diet"... does anyone actually eat that? is that what we are supposed to be aiming for if we are in maintenance and do everything perfect, exercise regularly, etc. is this for a male or female? i've never understood who that is for.

I believe that the 2000 calories is set as a woman of a certain height and weight (probably based on the average woman who is lightly active and in the middle of a healthy weight range, just guessing) which is why it's only a guideline as everyone is different. Men have the 2500 calorie guideline, but akin to the women, some need more and some need less- it's determined on your height/weight/activity level.

My Dr wants me to eat 1980 per day. I struggle to get that low. I am normally at 2150-2400 per day. I have been losing weight though. I have PCOS so weight loss will definitely be a struggle for me. Whenever I start a new workout regime my weight loss stalls for about 2 months and then the pounds start to come off slowly. As I lose weight I think she will lower the number of calories and I will not be surprised I have quite a bit of weight that needs to come off before she will let me off meds. honestly, that's the only reason I am trying to lose weight to get off the meds. I am 6'0'' tall. I also think my height has a lot to do with it. My job is very sedentary so I dance 2-3 times per week and do yoga 1 time each week.
