The Breakup Club

Hello. This is my first post, and totally unlike me to be this open with strangers. Anyway, my boyfriend of the past 4.5 years and I are in the middle of a breakup, and I don't want the stress and emotional rollercoaster to derail my weight loss. I'm looking for other MFPers who are going through something similar. Would love to creat a supprotive little group.

I am not going through a break up now...but I have. During this up and down time, what you need is consistency and control. You have control over your diet and your exercise. Having control over that will seriously diminish your ups and downs.

There's nothing better to get through a breakup like focusing on YOURSELF!!!

I lost 30 lbs during what I called my "divorce diet." Good luck!!

when my heart is breaking, i find obsessing over my fitness to be a nice distraction. Plus exercise releases endorphins which will cheer you up. And you will be getting in shape so you can look forward to being a confident single lady with lots of attention :)

This! I'm concentrating on myself, not him anymore. I'm trying to gain weight and recover from anorexia, my ex wasn't supportive of my recovery and he really triggered me alot, so instead of crying over him I'm doing my best to remember why I broke up with him. You have to think about what is best for you, you broke up for a reason right and I know it's hard but you are the most important person so focus your energy on doing what's right for you xxx

I have been through it and it is hard to say the least, the hardest thing ever. Luckily for me though it took the opposite effect and I lost my appetite and over 20kg.

to clarify "obsessing over fitness" does not equal eating disorder.

been there, done that, did not make me feel good at all.

I lost about 35 lbs in less than a month on the "infidelity" diet. Not fun, believe me. Turn to your friends and family for support. Let them know the challenges you face and ask them to give you a friendly reminder if needed.

Funny how we have names for our special diets that gave us the fast weight loss after break up. I can relate to the infidelity diet, God it's the worst. After 20kg weight loss I called mine "The Shock and Trauma Diet" - better than South Beach - works every time!

Seriously though, it really does suck.

I am in the midst of this as well. My husband and I split in November after 2 and half years of marriage, but were together almost 11 years. (Hgh school sweethearts). It was completely out of the blue for me and I have very much struggled. Focusing on myself has been great and I just completed my 3rd week of the INSANITY program!

I knows it's so cliche, but it does get better, little by little. You will have days when you feel like you're back to square one. Just try to get out of bed. Then try to work out.

Feel free to add me, and hang in there.

I lost something similar with a breakup. Was too miserable to eat, think, do pretty much anything. Good luck and much happiness.

You will find your happiness again! But, unfortunately, have to go through the hard stuff first.

I just split up with my boyfriend of a couple years over the weekend. Would be happy to give (and receive!) whatever support I can! I'm determined to not let this derail the progress I have made.

I so wish that this would've come up three months ago.. lucky for me, I've managed to drag my break-up out that long :[

I definitely would love the support from people who are in the same place..

I just broke up with my boyfriend too. I take out my frustration and heartbreak by exercising. It is so worth it <3

Not sure what the circumstances are...I'm sorry for the pain. What has helped me is a rockin' playlist and a good pair of running shoes. I've got a lot of great "break up" songs:

    Undo It, Carrie Underwood
    What the Hell, Avril Lavigne
    Part of Me, Katy Perry
    Mean, Taylor Swift
    Run the World, Beyonce
    I Am Woman, Jordin Sparks
    Fighter, Christina Aquilerra

So make a playlist of whatever empowers you and use exercise for the stress and have a little bit of chocolate!

Ditto... Got down to a size 6. Unfortunately, it was just stress, and I was still unhealthy as *kitten*.

I think it was Pantera that recommended the song "What the *kitten*" by Jenny Owens Young to me during my break-up.

    Seriously... that song is gold.

First of all, HUGS to you. I totally get it. I have been divorced 21/2 years now after spending the last 17 years with him. Mine walked out and left me with two small kids with no notice and all for a young 21 year old. Nice., I was the opposite though. I gained more weight on top of the pregnancy weight I had from my youngest. I ate because I was depressed and SHOCKED. But I am working on me now and would love support as well. All friends and support is welcome.
