12 weeks in - 28lbs and 9% body fat down

Hi,
Just had my 12 week bodpod assessment today and here's the update:
Sex: F
Height: 5"4.5
Age: 29
4 January 2012
Total Weight: 196.2 lbs
Lean weight: 116.7 lbs
Fat weight: 79.4 lbs
Percent Lean: 59.5%
Percent Fat: 40.5%
3 April 2012
Total Weight: 166.9 lbs
Lean weight: 114.3 lbs
Fat weight: 52.6 lbs
Percent Lean: 68.5%
Percent Fat: 31.5%
I am absolutely ecstatic. I have lost nearly 100% fat, which is exactly what I want.
My goal is to lose another 21lbs by my next 12 week update. I plan to now include a weight lifting routine and increase my cardio.

I go to a physiology centre at a nearby university to get my bod pod assessments done.
Its the machine that looks like an egg with a window at the front. lol. Best way to describe it.0 -

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but that body fat difference seems pretty inaccurate. Especially, if you're talking about starting a strength training routine now. I would consult another source. It took me almost a year to lose 9% body fat. I have been lifting weights actually. I had a basic routine and did that 3 times a week. When I say start a routine, I mean NROWLW or starting strength.
Do you know what a bod pod assessment is? It is one of the most accurate ways to measure body fat.
I have had the calipers and dexa scan/bod pod assessment done and the results are approx. the same.
The higher your body fat, the easier it is to drop fat without compromising your lean muscle.
I can bet that you have a much lower body fat than I had/have?
Also, my calorie deficit comes mostly from exercise. I eat 1800+ calories a day and have a ki fit (body media fit) so am able to modify my exercise all the time to meet my weight loss goals. I eat a lot of protein. I am not low carb but I do eat moderate carb/high protein.
I think it really makes a difference to your body composition when you eat to feed your body and get your macronutrients on point, instead of starving yourself.0 -
My TDEE is anywhere between 2200 and 3500 depending on whether its a workout day or weekend.
Like I said, I eat 1800+ calories a day gross.
My ki fit has really opened my eyes to what my real TDEE is. Previously, i thought that my maintenance calories were 1800. Turns out that on average I burn 2500 cals a day.
I have made a conscious effort to increase my NEAT through walking instead of taking the bus and watching less TV. My husband and I now go cycling together. Its just amazing how many calories you burn doing unintentional exercise.0 -
I do some form of cardio every day for an hour. Its not too much for me at all as I have a very sedentary job.
My philosophy is that there are 24 hours in a day so I must be able to spend at least 1 hour of them doing some cardio.0 -

Interesting because weren't you previously talking about how you were eating 800 gross calories a day and netting way less? I wasn't trying to insult you or start a body fat% contest here. I was simply trying to suggest a second test. There is a lot of misinformation on these forums. It seems as though you are an expert, clearly, so my opinion doesn't matter. And that was nearly two months ago honey. I stopped that crap after some good advice from someone who kindly pmed. I tried a vlcd, lost weight and put most of it back on when I stopped but half spent the last 8 weeks eating 1800+ cals and exercisin
Its funny cos the reason I even mentioned eating to feed ur body is exactly because I tried the vlcd and they didnt work. Come on. I know how easy it is to find previous posts by a member so no reason for me to try and be deceitful.

I am not an expert at all but many people on here are, including the kind person who made me see straight. I apologise if anyone thinks I was being deceitful. That wasnt the case. As far as I was concerned the vlcd didnt put me at any advantage as I dropped water weight and most of it back.
I tell you what.... I have my update in 12 weeks. Will be doing the same in terms of calories eaten/burnt so fingers crossed, i'll meet me goal of 21lbs lost with most of it being fat. I'll let you know. :-)

As Nnekaschild mentions, the BodPod is actually considered the gold standard for body composition analysis. If you go to their website you can see the kind of organisations who have them, mainly universities, hospitals, professional sports teams and some military bases.
In the UK there are places where you can get them done commercially. I've used them before to track increase in lean mass and think its great that other people are using them. They're incredibly insightful and give you a much more accurate picture than just stepping on some scales or calipers etc.
