working out with a bad knee :(

hey all, i was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for work out videos that are low impact on the knees?
about 5 years ago i popped my right knee out of place & never actually told my doctor (stupid i know) but ever since then my knee has been sooo weak.
i started doing jillian michaels 30 day shred but i find it's waay too much on my knee and i'm afraid i'm going to injure myself
i'm open to any suggestions

Take it slow
and if it starts to hurt....STOP!!!

My suggestion would be to get your knee examined.

I've just had knee surgery, and am still on 'low impact' exercise.
Firstly, I think you should have your knee checked, now, especially if it's causing pain when you exercise. It might be treatable.
Secondly, try to build up the muscles around your knee, you might find that it helps.
Leg raises, for example.
I'm allowed to do squats (with no weight), but not lunges.
Swimming or cycling are good.0 -
Like previous posters have said get it checked out.
I also agree with a stationary bike and swimming as exercises. After an ACL reconstruction and miniscus repair I was allowed to do them after a few weeks and with PT and doc approval.0 -

I recently had a major back injury as well as sore knees and this makes it really hard to work out. I made friends with the pool at the gym I go to. It has really helped and although i'm now back to being able exercising as regular.I still use the pool 3x a week
In the water i still engage in running in the water and jumping as well as weight resistance - I use foam weights which float on water but underwater create an amazing resistance- it's low impact but very effective in healing muscle tissue.

First.... Get your knee looked at. I've had several knee injuries and know that the knee is just one joint that just doesn't get better on it's own. If you've ruptured or partially torn any of the many tendons you're possibly looking at surgery for the tendon and the meniscus cartilage in the joint. If the main tendons are good, the knee is still wrapped by a lot of tiny stabilizing muscles as well as the large leg muscles. Any damage or weakness in the muscles can be fixed by physical therapy.
When I have been in PT for my knees:
-Squats using just body weight
-back lunges
-Standing side leg raises (stand on good leg, raise bad leg to strengthen hip flexor muscles) Repeat standing on bad leg, keeps hip strength balanced and works to strength stabilizing muscles as you keep your balance.
-Knee raises (works the front of the hip)
You need to work on maintaining or building strength in your hips, knees and ankles. If one is weak you will naturally and subconsciously compensate. Need all parts working in harmony so you don't cause more problems by compensating for an injury over a long period of time.0 -
thankyou everyone. i think i will make a doctors appointment and get a referral to a specialist. i really want to lose weight & this is putting a damper on it!0
