Always look for your own answers, with your dr, with the internet. Most meat heads in the gym hate girls in "their" section. I get "dont come in here" looks all the time.

Honestly this is the exact opposite of my experience. All the guys in the weight room have been really great to me. The girls, not so much.

Yeah I don't think I would have been able to listen to that. I would have re-racked my huge heavy weights and walked up to them and said "Um, no." Then I would have asked the girl to spot me. Sheesh...

To the guys: "You're both ****ing stupid."
To the woman: "Go do some research and don't listen to these idiots."

LOL I personally would have interrupted the convo (if I wasnt' still stunned by their idiocy) and at least made sure she understood that it wasn't true!

I would've had to say something. Only because they would've noticed me rolling on the floor laughing and pointing in their direction.

Yes.....I really heard two guys telling a lady at the gym this last night. They also told her she shouldn't really lift weights and if she does she should be doing 15-20 reps. I couldn't help but overhear and I couldn't believe they were telling her that. I didn't say anything......I probably should have.....I tried to catch her afterwards but she was on an elliptical machine and I didn't want to be that guy interrupting her workout? Would you have said something? said something afterwards? Catch her next time I see her? Just forget you heard it?

Holy crap. I want some guy to tell me that. I'd beat the sh.... out of him.

Hopefully she knows better.... but women, when told something by men, sometimes take it seriously because we want men to think we're attractive. I'm not of that variety. I punched a guy in the face once because he was giving me crap about my already big boobs and how bench pressing was just going to make them look more "freakish".

Luckily that was in high school lifting class, and my instructor was kind enough to ignore it when the girls defended themselves.

Just to clarify also......I think the woman really took it in...She was asking more questions etc......I will try to catch her next time. It was actually quite humorous because these guys were the same ones doing their tricep pull downs by putting all of their weight over the bar and pushing it down like a chest press.....

You might consider saying something to management especially if they do it again to someone else.. They should not be discouraging anyone from being in any part of the gym or offering unsolicited and very poor advice.

There are plenty of resources available for her to do her own research.

Well...I think since you are still thinking about it you know whats right =)
Personally I would watch for her and politely say that you overheard the conversation and have a different opinion. Assure her she isnt damaging her hormones by working out hard:ohwell: then suggest where she could find accurate and usefull information.

You would think the guys would have been more 'sensitive' LOL

same here. i've been around coed weight rooms for almost 20 years and in that time I've only had 2 bad experiences and in both those experiences before i had a chance to tell the dude in question to STFU, another male meathead would step him and do it for me.

not saying women cant have bad experiences in weight rooms but i havent. and as far as getting dirty looks, i dont count that as a bad experience because a look doesnt mean anything. i pay my fees like anyone else if guys dont like me in their weight room they can mean mug to their hearts content and can also kiss my fat *kitten*

What a bunch of bullies! YES, you should definitely speak to her next time you see her and tell her not to listen to those morons. I'm sure she would appreciate it.

Good thing those guys are lifting and keeping their estrogen levels up. I'm sure since they hang so much, their periods have synchonized already.

Another thing.....I don't think they were trying to keep her from using the area.....I think they actually thought they were trying to help....they were just idiots

Why wouldn't you say something right then and there? She would have appreciated it for a few reasons; she wouldn't have to go through the effort of working out only to get little to no results and then possibly look like a fool for 'not doing it right'.

Lifting weights creates does increase your testosterone level thus reducing estrogen your production. Even though the changes in hormone levels are relatively minor what those guys said is true.

Also when first starting a lifting program there is a pretty mainstream way of thinking that you should start out with light weights and high reps until you feel comfortable with the lifts and are able to do each lift with proper form.

So if I were you I would just mind my own business and focus on my own workout but hey that's me.

I would have d!ck punched the two guys, and then dragged her away to a little place called reality. I can't believe that they would suggest that she'd lose her estrogen! What a giant pile of horse *kitten*!

Or I would have laughed so uncontrollably that they'd have no choice as to ask me what was so funny and then replied "you brain."

But that would mean stopping the party up in there long enough to hunt it down . . . can it wait?

Lose their estrogen?? What does that even mean? Hopefully she's not stupid and just ignored them, or at least went home and hit and internet for the truth.

If I were there and had been witty enough (because I'm never witty until after the fact) I would have retorted back with something along the lines of "What? Are you afraid that a "girl" is going to be more "manly" than you?"
