Ive been very curious to try this, but just a wee bit weary. I dont know anyone else who has tried it and if its good, I'll gladly spend the extra few $$$$ for a healthy cut of red meat I know there are steaks, ground bison, and bison hotdogs.....just wondering what your opinions are on it and any way you prepare it (if special)

Yep. My Grandparents raised one for the meat. Grandma used to make buffalo meat loaf for us all the time and I thought it was great! Haven't had it in a few years, but if I remember correctly is was really flavorful, but not overpowering, and in truth, not all that different from beef.0

I've had ground bison a few times and really liked it. To me, it's the same texture as hamburger but more of a rich flavor like steak.0

I love bison. I buy it all the time if I see it on sale. If you have a sprouts or sunflower markets in your area, they normally carry it for fairly cheap0

Love bison. My family is a family of hunters and they have gotten permits for two buffalo. It doesn't have a gamey taste that most wild meat has and has less fat. I would recommend trying it. Also elk is pretty good too.0

It is very good, tastes like hamburger only a bit drier. Lower in fat than hamburger and a healthy alternative. Go for it. Edit: I am talking about ground bison to make into a hamburger. That is the only way I have had it.0

I have had it in chili and burgers. It is richer and leaner than beef. Nothing to be scared of here.0

Yep, and it's amazing... love living in Montana. I usually just make burgers out of it. There's this local place that makes bison potstickers with a tangy orange sauce and cucumber slaw... it's to die for.0

I use the ground buffalo as a replacement for ground beef fairly regularly. Has a slightly stronger taste than ground beef, but not much different. Haven't tried it as a steak but imagine it would be very good as long as it's not over cooked.0

I grew up in MB, and on a very regular basis we would eat Bison. It is delicious. Some ppl like to mix it half in half with beef but I think it tastes fantastic on it's own. They are great cuts and really juicy!!! YUM. Now I am craving it.....dang it!! I am sure I could scrounge up some Bison in T.O. if I needed to . I know St. Lawrence market sells Kangaroo.....wonder what that would taste like???0

My spouse often requests I pick up bison for him, he loves it, and its healthier than beef, I understand. Being a veg myself, I've never had it.0

It's very good. I had it for the first time way back in 4th grade when we were studying the western states. Then we had a Ted's Montana Grill here and they offered bison burgers and hamburgers. I always ordered the bison burgers.0

I have. It tastes a lot like beef only leaner. Don't overcook it! I have had Kangaroo too. The burgers are good but only cook about 3 minutes on each side. They are super lean but tasty.0

I have bison on my menu every Saturday night. It's not cheap but it's a GREAT meal. I love the lean meat and the flavor. I bbq it every Saturday night. It's my dinner and a movie dinner.0

I have it all the time. There is an Irish pub by me that serves Bison burgers. Very tasty!!!0

Love bison burgers, but they have to be good quality and cooked correctly so they're not too dried out.0

I just left MB (originally from ON though), and that's where we were able to freely purchase bison in the grocery store. Also, there's a restaurant in Wpg called Billabong that sells dishes made with Kangaroo. You're in T.O. now? I'm in Hamilton. Small freaking world0 -
I've had bison steaks and they were delish. They had a shorter cooking time than beef.0

I love bison, venison and elk! All are delicious when cooked properly (ie., not too long!)0

We eat Bison fairly regularly. It does cook more quickly than beef, an being very lean, you have to cook carefully to make sure it stays tender. However, I have used ground bison (in recipes and as burgers), eaten bison steaks and used bison for pot roast and stew meat. It worked well for all. I tend to gravitate towards the stew meat because it is cheapest where I buy Bison.0

I only use bison. My Uncle hunts it so it's FREE and I haven't bought beef in over 5 years. It's great tasting but usually not fatty enough to hold itself in burger form. And on the plus side...you should see how low my cholesterol is!0

love love love love love bison!!!! So much yummier than ground beef. It is worth the extra money when you really want a delicious burger!! Just had that on Sunday! mmmmmmmmmmmmm0

I love bison. I live just 30 miles from a beefalo and bison farm, but their prices are pretty high, so I don't cook with it as often as I'd like.
As many people have said, bison is richer, leaner, savory, and delicious! Just be careful how you cook it...high heat with no added liquid or a tiny bit of grease will give you a dry cut.
It's great in stews, makes great jerky, and is wonderful braised with small potatoes and carrots and onions.0 -
Can't say anything that hasn't already been said, burgers and steaks are great, very lean and flavorful, I have about 20lbs in my freezer that my dad gave me!0

To funny you asked this question, I was asked today if I wanted to go in on a buffalo... I really like it and hope I can get a few more people to go in on it.0

Only substitute for ground beef I've found. Great for chili and burgers as others have mentioned.0

I'm in freaking bison country (North Dakota). I've had it prepared many different ways and its just as good as beef. Try it and enjoy!0
