Why do I not sweat?

Hi! I run intervals of 1:15 run and 2:30 walk. I do this 15 times! And I don't sweat! I can lots of other things and don't sweat. Why? And please don't say it's because I don't drink enough water because I do! When I don't sweat I feel like I'm not workoing out enough or hard enough! What do you think?

Do you sweat at all? Some people just don't sweat a lot. I'm ultra gross and sweat a ton. As long as you're not uncomfortable from a lack of sweat, you're probably fine.

Some people just sweat less than others. If you literally do not sweat, that could be a serious medical issue.

If you just get a very light glisten after an hour of high intensity workout... well I'm right there with you.

What's your heart rate at during the intervals? If it's high and you aren't sweating you should consider going to a doctor. If it's not high...try to run faster?

Perhaps you're one of those people that just doesn't sweat much or at all! I don't think I've ever seen my dad sweat, even on the hottest days of summer after doing yard work. Some people are just like that.

Are you pushing yourself as hard as you can when you do cardio? If you can't push any harder, you're working out hard enough! Invest in a heart rate monitor, it could give you the info you need about exertion since your body obviously isn't!
  • @SoDamnhungry-I sweat barely enough to even damp my finger! Iand I feel like I'm working hard!
  • Thanks for all the comments! I don't know it just feels weird not sweating when everyone else is!

But you sweat at least a tiny bit? If this is the case, then some of the other suggestions might help to make sure you're working out hard enough. As long as there's no pain (supposedly my great grandmother never sweated and it was agonizing), you're probably fine.

If you're literally not sweating at all, I would probably get it checked out. But if you are sweating a bit, even a glisten, count yourself lucky, haha. I sweat enough for three people.

Is your heart rate elevated when you train? If your heart rate isn't raised significantly then you're not working at a high enough intensity.

I sweat a lot but I do a lot of high intensity training (zero running). You SHOULD sweat, at least a little, if you're working hard, but your heart rate is more important.

I would try some high intensity interval training once or twice to see if maybe you feel a difference :)

Where you live, in regards to the humidity, can make a difference, too. I'm in Arizona where it's really dry so even though I'm sweating, it usually dries almost immediately, especially when I'm out running.
  • @Secretlobster- I've done high intensity interval workouts. When I finally start sweating I usually feel like I'm going to pass out or die!

    @SuelnAz-Florida! We have humidity here!

It is not a big deal. I do not sweat either( I do the Insanity work out program and run half Marathons), I just get really red. I have talk to Sports specialists and running coaches and they said, some people just don't. As long as you are getting your heart rate up and do not feel unwell you are fine.

I don't sweat that much either. Instead I turn beet red in my face and it lasts for at least an hour when I'm done. I've had people ask me if I'm ok I'm that red...

I don't sweat much either. Even when I was in Afghanistan where it was 55 degrees celcius lol. My doctor says I'm perfectly healthy though so I don't stress about it. It DOES make me overheat some when I do really high intensity workouts, and my face gets really red pretty quick, especially when I run, it's not pretty  lol

Do not feel like you are alone with no sweating. I do not sweat. I roofed houses in Abilene, Texas in the summer and did not sweat. I would have to take a hose up on the roof to cool off. I turn red as a beet, heart rate goes sky high and if I do not do something to cool down, I will pass out. I did that in a Zumba class one time, too. Scared everyone. I use those bands you put in the freezer around my neck. I have even tried baggies with ice inside my cap when I am hiking. I drink over a gallon of water a day, so water intake has nothing to do with me not sweating.

Just be careful about getting overheated. It can be very dangerous if you push it too far.

Sweating is the body's way of cooling itself off. It is not a measure of how hard you're working, but rather how your body is adapting to the temperature. For example, I've had instances where I've done 10-12 minutes of sprint intervals (30 seconds sprint, 30 seconds jogging) where even though I was winded and my heart rate was jacked, I was barely breaking a sweat. Conversely, I've also had days where I've sat on my *kitten* in a beach chair doing nothing and was sweating like a pig.

Sweating doesn't determine if a person is working out hard or not. A person doesn't have to sweat bullets, to say that they have being working out. The heart determines if you have been working out hard.

Sweat is nothing but your cooling system. If you are working out in a cool place, you will not sweat as much. A lot of people on infomercials sweat a lot, because of the lighting. Men tends to sweat more than women.

    Sweat doesn't equal weight loss.

I don't sweat a lot and I workout hard. I don't have step my workouts. Keep up the good work and don't worry about sweating.

At my tri club's spinning class I look like there's a lake under my bike, some others bike at the same intensity and barely have a damp forehead - everybody 's different (and when I was 18 I'd barely sweat at all unless I was exercising in really hot weather)

This is how I am too! I need to wipe the machine down multiple times when I'm done on it!
