Alot of the foods in the diary or even on the nutrition content themselves don't post the potassium! I like to keep my potassium high to counter-act the sodium. Some options are fruits (dried or fresh. though dried seems to have more), veggies, and if you like juices, pom pomegranate juice has a decent amount. The most i've found is v8 spicy hot low sodium has low sodium and extremely high potassium (1000mg) per 8oz. i'm not sure if the other flavors do, cause that's the only kind i get... If you need more options i would google it.

Any fruits or veggies are good.

Since Potassium is rarely a depleted nutrient, it isn't a requirement on labeling in the US. The database here doesn't have many items listed with Potassium, for that reason. You probably get more than you think.

All the Admin entered foods have it. Look for items with no asterisk in front of their names in the database. Those are entered by the site Admin.

Beet greens, potatoes with the skin on, sweet potatoes with the skin on, beet root, avocado, coconut water... even chia seeds have an okay amount.
  • A good friend of mine has problems with it too. We have searched and searched and here are a few things he eats, cause he was bored with bananas too.

Spinach - fresh is best, but canned has a ton too.
Spaghetti O's - yes, seriously high in potassium
Naked drinks - The green one has the most 400 mg, I think.
Some yogurts - He wasn't real cool with yogurt.
Some juices - I can't remember what we got the most, but I found several that were high in potassium. I wanna say grape was the best.

    Hope that helps! :)

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with Bananas & Celery? Not necessarily together, of course...

Nothing wrong with bananas and celery. I just wanted some other options. I read that lima beans were good too, but I'm not gonna eat them every day. I like to change things up.

pumpkin. Make some pumpkin pie (less the crust) It's too easy and tastes like....pumpkin pie.

Morton lite salt. Ratio of potassium to sodium is favorable towards potassium.

    sweet potato

    banana

Also, keep in mind that your idea of being low in potassium is limited by the MFP database. Poop in..poop out.

I just started managing to get my potassium daily allowance. And i'm still working on it but here's what I use:

    Acorn Squash cooked 2 cups - 1792
    Potato 2 1/2 in diameter - 515
    Carrot raw (medium size)- 250
    Strawberries (frozen) 1 cup - 221
    Dempster's 12 Grain bread (one slice) 120

I absolutely love acorn squash so I use that most often.

TOPIC: HELP! I'm low on potassium.

Just out of curiousity, how do you know? Since US labeling laws don't require listing the potassium content of foods, the vast majority of the items in the MFP database list zero or NA, even if the food actually has a lot of potassium. Just because MFP says you are low on potassium doesn't mean you really are. Garbage in, garbage out.

Edit: Xposted with GP79, who put it more colorfully than I did!
