Learning a lot about my BMR today. After four months of staled weight I have finally allowed myself to consider the possibility I'm not eating enough. Old topic I know! Most online BMR calculators give me a BMR of 1500-1600. I'm 5"4, 180, 32, Female. Down from 231 pounds. A few months ago I went to see a Nutritionist and she hooked me up to a machine that gave some detailed info. on my body. I still have the print out and realized it probably had my BMR on it. I was surprised to discover my BMR was actually 1290? I believe by eating to little I have put my body in survival mode but now I'm wondering if that is true. Anyone get an accurate BMR that was a lot lower then what you thought. How have you handled it?

Interesting..... i just read this online.
"Diet. Starvation or serious abrupt calorie-reduction can dramatically reduce BMR by up to 30 percent. Restrictive low-calorie weight loss diets may cause your BMR to drop as much as 20%."'

I think this. You've lowered your BMR from eating too little. Your body got used to living off "x" amount of calories, so now that's all it requires. If you start eating more that will correct itself over time and you'll likely end up closer to where the calculators put you.
