Horrible pain!!!

I am having some severe pain in my hip. It's on the inside portion almost near my groin and I ONLY get the pain when I try to move my hip out to the side away from my body. About 6 months ago, I slid on our newly wood floor and my left leg went out to the side and I had excruciating pain. After about a minute, it went away.

I have no pain when I walk, bear weight or anything else except for when my left leg goes out to the side. Tonight during exercise, I tried a squat with my legs out and just going straight down in the middle and the pain made me cry this time. I got a shooting sensation down my entire leg into my toes and after a few minutes the pain went away. However, from my hip to my knee (outer side mostly), it feels like someone has put icy hot on it.

Again, there is no pain right now and only pain when I move it to the side - I am find doing my exercises, etc, unless it involves going to the side, but the pain has gotten so bad when I do that it takes my breath away and I nearly pass out.

Any ideas what this could be? I really don't want to go to the doctor for them to just do a bunch of x-rays, etc and just tell me it's nothing or something simple that a bit of rest could take care of.

Thanks!!!

It sounds like you may have injured your IT band which runs from the hip to the outside of the knee. While it's true that a torn muscle or strain can take months to recover from, it shouldn't be causing that much pain. Especially the burning. That sounds more like nerve pain. I would talk to an ortho just in case. In the mean time I would ICE the area you think you strained to reduce swelling internally and take an anti inflammatory. YIKES
    Sorry hope you feel better:)

Sounds like your sciatic nerve to me. (the pain going to your toes suggests it's not IT band, from the description of your fall IT was unlikely )

I always thought the sciatic nerve was on the back side of your buttocks/thigh/leg though? Of course I'm no MD so what do I really know. LOL

Sounds like sciatic nerve pain. That's the same pain I had while pregnant with my daughter. Try visiting a chiropractor, get some x-rays and an adjustment. May take more than one visit but should help a lot.

    Sounds like a pinched nerve.
