Hello All! I am new here. Looking forward to having some support and encouragement as I tackle my weight loss journey! :)

I started my weight loss plan around March 19th- About 2 weeks ago or so. I currently am 5'9" and about 162lbs. As an ex-college volleyball player and horseback rider, I'm about 10lbs overweight from my ideal weight for my body frame. I'm a 25 y/o female and it's been at least 5 years since I was a competitive athlete.

Up until 2-3 weeks ago I was sedentary (except for my current job as a waitress while I finish school) and somewhat of a heavy drinker (we're talking like a pint of rum about 3X+ per week- TONS of empty calories and just badness haha).

Right now I am up to running about 2 miles a day on the treadmill or outside, or about 30 minutes of cardio (10 minutes of walking- I don't run the entire thing- YET). Sometimes I do more, sometimes a wee but less. My goal is to sign up for a 5K. I do this about 5 days a week (Saturdays and Wednesdays being my rest days). On top of this I have cut way back on drinking (going out Saturdays only) and have really become conscious of what I'm eating. Sticking to egg whites, wheat toast, oatmeal for breakfast and usually grilled chicken or salmon or some kind of salad with a potato and some veggies for lunch/dinner. Compared to eating pizza/chicken fingers/whatever I wanted to eat WHENEVER I wanted to eat it, before haha.

I know it's only been two weeks but I haven't even seen a pound lost yet! I HAVE to lose at least 5lbs by summer, right?! I would be happy with even 5lbs. I feel much healthier and much better about myself and I know once I lose the weight I will continue to run- I almost forgot how much I LOVE running and the stress relief that comes with it!

So what do you think, about another 6 weeks or so before I (AND other people) start noticing a difference?

How long did it take for all of you to see your hard work pay off? I know it will come if I stick to this but I'm just getting downright impatient :) Thanks so much for any replies!

do you have any idea of how many calories you're eating each day? Doesn't matter how much you exercise if you eat 2000 calories more than you burn. You have to track the calories and insure that you're burning more than you eat. If you burn more than you eat, you lose weight. A pound is 3000 calories. Burn 3000 more calories in a week than you eat and you'll lose a pound.

Ehh no.. I don't. I haven't tracked calories I guess mainly because I assume by going from the lifestyle and diet I was living before, to a much more active and healthier lifestyle with cleaner eating habits that it will have to make SOME kind of difference... right??

Track a normal day and see how many calories you are eating...you might be suprised. Good luck!

    This.

I have a friend who guarantees me he eats nothing but healthy foods, and not that much. Yet he's at least 30 lb overweight. Your body weight will normalize to the amount of food you give it on average, but it takes time. Track how much you're eating on a typical day and see what you get.

nope, not right. Exercise more and eat more and you get no difference. Have to exercise more and eat same amount. Or have same level of activity and eat less. Or exercise more and eat less, both, and get even better results.

But clearly, if you aren't losing weight, you are eating as many calories or more than you're burning. It's simple physics. You have to burn more calories than you eat. And if you don't know how many you eat.......
