protein shakes?
So I've never tried a protein shake before, but I've heard they're good for after a workout. Over the weekend I found some single serve packets of whey protein and soy protein and decided to try it out. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of shakes to make with them though. Does anyone have any favorite protein shake recipes they would be willing to share with me?
(btw the protein flavor is creamy vanilla)
Thanks!

I use Jillian Michaels protein powder (vanilla) and use it for breakfast sometimes
I add 2 TBS of fat free greek yogurt
Any fruit - ie berries, bananas, whatever you like
I scoop of protein powder
water (amt is according to instructions)
I mix the greek yogurt and water first using a hand blender
Then a I blend in the protein powder
Then I blend in the fruit.
Tastes less powdery this way0 -
check out the nutrishop website... I love protek 5 cookies and cream..doesn't taste like your typical protein shake, so easier to take!0

I found my NEW FAVORITE last night!
2 scoops Chocolate Whey protein powder
1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
6-8 ounces Fat Free or Skim Milk
2-3 ice cubes
Throw it all in a blender, blend until smooth!
Tastes like a peanut butter cup. Wonderful, especially since I have been craving Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs....0 -

I made my own. Old Fashion Oats,+ nesquick (chocolate or straberry), add all ingredients to a food processor until resemble power. Blend few tablespoon of the power mixture to a glass of fat free fat milk and blend everything together. I use sugar free chocolate, so taste it and add honey or aguave to it.0

I just logged my protein shake as my evening snack, because I'm an evening snacker and need something
1 scoop Whey protein..peanut butter chocolate
1 cup so delicious coconut milk (unsweetened)
1/2 cup - cup frozen strawberries
Mix together...the frozen strawberries make it like a frozen shake...Enjoy0 -
I use Optimum Nutrition (cookies and cream)
Tastes good enough to mix with 250ml of soy milk and drink straight up - no extra ingredients required0 -
I use the visalus protein powder right now, was giving it a try, it tastes really good, my fave is to put a scoop of cocoa and some frozen strawberries, I also like peanut butter and strawberries.0

I do almost the exact same recipe as rchupka87 does.
1 banana
1-2 scoops whey protein
2 tblsp peanut butter
2-3 cups of ice
1 cup fat free milk
A few dashes vanilla extract (optional)
Blend it up. When I use two scoops protein, I usually split this with Kellybean, as it can make lot!0 -

I have literally DOZENS of recipes I've collected over the years. If interested, inbox me. Don't want to clog up this thread with recipes you may or may not want. Current faves of mine: Eggnog Protein Shake; Banana-Berry-Flax Protein Shake; Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake.0

I love adding vanilla protein powder to green smoothies for a protein boost and to make them creamy. Here is a recipe for my favorite green smoothie using protein powder (reminds me of a PBJ):
1 scoop vanilla protein
1 frozen banana cut into small slices (fresh works also, but shake will be less thick)
1-2 TBSP of natural peanut butter (depends on calories I have available)
8-10 strawberries depending on size of strawberries
4 cups of baby spinach leaves
Blend strawberries with 2 TBSP of water to form a liquid. Then add spinach leaves and blend until leaves are fully blended into the liquid. Add protein powder and blend again. Add natural peanut butter and blend. Then add frozen banana slices and blend. Grab big glass and enjoy. Depending on protein powder used and amount of peanut used, calories will vary. Mine are just under 500 calories using 2 TBSP of PB, but I tend to drink this one as a meal replacement. Enjoy!0 -
love all the recipes. Mines was getting old.....I love Jay Robb Vanilla Whey with strawberries, blueberries, half banana, flaxseeds, chia seeds, 1 cup of pinapple or apple juice and ice.0

My absolute favorite is just 2tbls of peanut butter, water according to directions, and 1 scoop. (I put it into the freezer for like 15 minutes to make it super cold...just like a milkshake, but much better for me!)0

These all sound so yummy. I haven't really gotten into the adding phase yet. I add ice and banana to my Jillian Michaels Double Chocolate powder or just milk and powder since it it pretty good on its own. My next powder will hopefully have a higher protein content for the calories though.0

Thanks guys! These all sound awesome!0

Syntha-6 is amazing
indeed their vanilla ice cream flavor is delicious. *drool*
But... their calorie to protein ratio is too high for me.
Here's what i like to do below!
I dont use ice and prefer a thicker creamier shake!
Strawberry-Banana Shake
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
2 scoops strawberry optimum nutrition whey
1/2 cup apple juice
(optional i throw in creatine)
Blend!
Chocolate Banana Shake
1 frozen banana
2 scoops chocolate optimum nutrition whey
1/2 cup 2% milk
1 packet of splenda
(if im feeling snazzy a squirt of chocolate syrup or even better 1/4 pint of blue bell's no sugar added vanilla ice cream)
Berry Berry shake
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 frozen banana
2 scoops strawberry optimum nutrition whey
1/2 apple juice
Best of luck!
Edit: by the way these all have 44+ grams of protein and less than 450 calories I should also probably mention (and i could be wrong) the ON whey is the best calorie/protein ratio at 22 grams protein for 120 calories. if you aren't feeling like cleaning the blender just use a blender bottle with 1 scoop whey, water/milk, packet of splenda and shake!0 -
