Do you think MPF's on target with amount of calories burned? I just logged my walking for yesterday and it seems high at 956 for 60 minutes at 3mph and 2 hours of slow paced. I sure don't want to be cheating myself!

I found MFP to be 20-30% too high for most of my activities logged after I got my HRM. I think if you make the habit of eating back about half - or a little more if you're feeling hungry - your MFP exercise calories, you'll be fine.

After I bought my HRM I found that I actually burned more calories than MFP had.

I love my HRM and found MFP to over estimate some things and under estimate others.

Thanks! No gospel, I just know what my results were and what I've read here that for MOST people, it overestimates most activities. I had a few activities (yoga, Pilates) that MFP was too low...

If you can invest, my HRM was the best fitness purchase I made last year and I got a Polar on Amazon for about $65. It was worth every penny. Good luck to you!

Ah shucks... ....I thought for sure it was too high and everyone would say so. I'll see what some others say and if it is mixed I will go buy a HRM. Thank you!

MFP overestimates my calories burned by ~25% on most cardio exercises.

Thanks for your input everyone! :flowerforyou:

I lost a pound this week and I was eating back all my calories burned. I set my goal for a 2 pound loss each week so I will go with the 20-30% of not using exercise calories. But I am happy with my loss!!

for myself, MFP underestimates calories burned compared to my HRM.. i think the intensity with which you workout with causes the variance.
