Fast Food Weekends

Hey, generally my family doesn't buy any food to cook during the weekend because they like to eat out. Since I have started this process, I have tried to refrain from going out to eat as much as possible (though sometimes when there is no food there really is no choice). I was wondering if there are any places (and meals) that anyone could recommend to me so that I am still getting a delicious meal but I don't have to feel guilty about it?

Don't feel guilty. Go find the nutrition menu for the restaurant that your family is eating at and purchase whatever fits your macros and calories. Eat some greens from home along the side of that and you're golden, pony boy.0

So, say my family was going to Burger King or Wendy's, what would I get (I heard the salads at these places are worse than the burgers)?0

If we have takeaways, I let the kids have McDs or whatever they want, but for me it is Subway and now I LOVE Subway (it's more tasty than a bland hamburger).0

Maybe your family should be more supportive of your weight loss efforts by NOT eating fast food all weekend...maybe have a talk with your wife about it because it's going to be really tough on you if you are having to resist temptation like that all the time. What's stopping you from starting to buy groceries for the house on the weekends or maybe eating out twice or something. Eating out for every meal on the weekends sounds pretty excessive. Good luck.0

If fast food is the only choice when I'm out, we go to Wendy's, I order two side salads, ask for a larger plate, dump the salads on the plate first, and pour a large chili, equal to 1 cup, over it and make what I call a taco salad. I know the sodium is higher than I would like, but It has to be better than fries and a burger.0

You could always stop off at the store and buy healthy food for yourself on Fridays. and eat that. Then you could order something small and your best guess at healthy so you get to enjoy your familys company as well.0

You could try to start a new tradition? Maybe you could cook a healthy meal for your family on Saturday or Sunday.0

Go to the nutrition site. Just know that fast food isn't necessarily always bad for you - it's just typically higher in sodium than home cooked foods (I think). I'm 5'6'' and maintaining a weight of 125 and I eat out alllll the time with my boyfriend. Just go for a small burger without mayo and small fries if you're craving that. When I go to burger king I'll just order the smaller size of whatever I want. For instance a single stacker? small fries? or small thing if chicken tenders and fries. sometimes i can just skip the fries. or grilled chicken sandwiches are rather good, too!
Just use your best judgement and look up calories later. Don't live in fear of what you eat. Just be smart and go for smaller options.0 -
Most fast food restaurants offer healthy choices or at least more than a double everything hamburger, super duper large french fry, and chocolate shake. Look at the nutrition menu and see what is available. The only downside is sodium which is difficult to escape large amounts when you eat out.
I eat out a good deal as I enjoy it and am still having great success. The key is to eat smart and do your best to keep the sodium under control. You can battle sodium with drinking lots of water and eating bananas regularly.0 -

I am only 18 and still in high school I am not married lol but thanks for all the advice. I will try and maybe order the smaller portions (as someone mentioned in one of the previous posts) like a small grilled chicken sandwich and small fries (and no soda I basically drink mostly water now!) and if I am still hungry I have healthy snacks around the house.0 -
Just say no to cheese and mayo.0

Everyone and their sodium. Please go. Stop with the sodium fear mongering. So, say my family was going to Burger King or Wendy's, what would I get (I heard the salads at these places are worse than the burgers)?
My goal whenever I go somewhere is get the most amount of protein I can get. So, I have 1800 calories, 61g of fat, 158g of protein, and 158g carbs. This isn't set in stone, so some days I'll have a lot more fat and a lot less carbs. So, in the case of BK, I'd get a triple whooper with no mayo. The mayo adds tons of calories. I end up using my own at home. I personally skip fries. It takes up a lot of calories for very little food. So I'd get something else since the triple whopper is 1140 calories, which would be a tender grill chicken or a chicken caesar garden fresh salad.
You get the idea. The main goal should be to get as close as possible to your protein goal. Skip fries only because they blow hard for calories. I love fries more than the next guy but it's either a bunch of tender grill chickens and fries or a triple whopper with a salad. I take the latter because I love my burgers.0 -
I ended up getting a small grilled chicken sandwich with small fries and I am proud because honestly I nearly gave in temptation at the drive-thru lol. I have other healthy snacks so that when I eat later, I will not increase my sodium by much.0
