I have my first 5 mile race tomorrow and i'm terrified. Its an annual race where i live and last year the last person came in at 82 minutes. I'm convinced i'm going to be slower, my last few training runs have been marred by hip pain (its better now) and i'm sure this is going impact me  At the moment I can just about run non stop for half a mile outside (longer on the treadmill) and i feel like everyone there is going to think i'm a loser for walking half of it. I'm tempted to back out but i've already paid the entry fee.

Sorry for this crazy post but I sort of just needed to write my thoughts down somewhere.

At every race I go to, there's people who walk and run. And you know how I know they walk and run? Because they're still AHEAD of me when they're doing it!

No matter what you do, you're still going to cross that finish line and burn about 500 calories. It's a no-lose situation!

Don't worry about it at all! Every race I've done, no matter how slow I am with time, or how hot, tired, and sluggish I felt, at the end, I felt like a winner, because I finished, plain and simple. That's all that matters. Go out and kick some butt, and don't worry about anyone else. :)
