I have been working out hard for 3 months running 7-10 miles aweek but I refused to diet, I figured if I worked out it would come off...Here I am 190 and 3 days into my new diet (by the way I was 150 with a 6 pack 7 months ago) I dont know what happened. What are your success stories for encouragement I have at least 40lbs to loose? Anyone have any good recipes for diner?

The first week was the hardest, but i definitely tracked everything i ate. If I wasnt sure about food, i would google the nutrion facts. That definitely helped me start strong. Understanding you can eat at night, I would save something for an evening snack that would make me not go to bed hungry. I started planning my meals in the second week.

Since you work out well, the calorie intake is your only barrier.

Lastly, I was not a slave to the scale. I only weigh in 1 time per week understanding that my weight might go up one day and down the next. The days it went up, I lost motivation, so once a week is all I will do.

After high school, I gained 25lbs and it has been a yoyo battle every since. In my 20's, I resorted to crash diets and it lowered my weight for a while but it would go back up during my comfortable happy years.

Last summer, I joined an outdoor bootcamp class. I didn't change my diet though and all I gained was muscle. Didn't lose the fat. January 1st 2012, I decided to take control of my eating habits and joined MFP. It is my lifestyle choice.

My tools of choice are my measuring cup, food scale and heart rate monitor watch. I know whatever meal I have, I can only have 1 cup of it : breakfast cereal, stew, soup, chili, fried rice, stir fry, oatmeal, etc... only 1 cup. Depending on the calories, I can give myself a second helping. I always leave room for snaking.

I eat about 6 times a day, walk my dog 3 times a day, workout VIGOROUSLY twice a week and sometimes add a workout on week-ends.

Now that I am 8 lbs away from my goal, I am not so hung up on the number on the scale. I've been living a healthy lifestyle and I don't mind living like this the rest of my life.

Break your target of 40 into 8 mini goals of 5 pounds each. Give yourself a month for each. A series of mini successes will keep you motivated and optimistic. If you break those targets faster you will be even more satisfied. Look for other signs like fitting into the clothes that were shoved into the back of the closet, belts you need to snug up to the next hole, etc. Realize everyone has their own 'style" of losing weight. I tend to be a chunk loser. Go a couple of weeks with no affirmation from the scale and then on week 3, BAM 3 to 5 pounds disappeared. Because of the way I lose weight, I rely more on clothing fit and how I feel to judge how I am progressing. Every once and a while, indulge. Good luck.
