Hi-ya! I just started in late January, with about 60 pounds or so to lose (I honestly won't know 'til I get there, I think). I started out with sloooow walking, perhaps 30 minutes a day, worked my way up to quicker walking for longer periods of time. I'm now trying C25K (and, honestly, not liking it very much, if I were to be completely honest...I love the feeling of having DONE it, I just abhor DOING it  ).
Anyways, just wanted to say hello! :flowerforyou:0 -

Hi I am also 55 and started changing my eating habits in Oct. 2011, but didn't start using MFP till Jan. 2012. So far I love it. It helps me keep real what I have consumed. When I started entering my meals that I had just wrote down before using MFP I found I wasn't getting enough calories. So far since Oct. 1, 2011 thru Aprl 2, 2012 I have lost 79. I still have quite aways to go but with the help of God, family, and MFP I think I can do it this time. Good luck to you and welcome to MFP.0

Joined MFP in March 2012 & just figured out there are Message Boards. Duh. I just turned 56 (how did that happen?!) & it's my first time actually seriously dieting/counting calories. I gained 60 lbs over the last 16 years & became sedentary for various reasons. I joined a gym, began working out with a trainer in March & lost 15 lbs in 8 wks. I feel so much better exercising.
I'm so happy to find a group of other "middle aged" women. It's a much more challenging journey at 56 than at 16 or 26 when metabolism, lifestyle and activity levels differ.
I'm looking for ideas to get past the weight loss plateaus that I now are inevitable & that I have encountered over the past 10 days.
Increasing cardio - ck. Also looking for input about your caloric intake. Both my trainer and dietician believe that I should increase my caloric intake to 1500 from my current 1200. (BMR is 1503) Have any of you done that & was it successful? Scary to consume more calories when I'm trying to lose weight.
Thanks to all & best wishes on your journey.0 -
I'm 51 years old and just joined MFP in April. I have 75-100 pounds to lose and look forward to seeing what everyone else does to keep motivated, whether it's the exercise they are currently doing or food ideas. I used to walk 5-10 miles per day and then injured my foot, in addition to dealing with a frozen shoulder. So now I'm ready to get back into a healthier way of life. I enjoy doing Leslie Sansone's in-home walking DVD and I'm currently doing her 5-mile fat burning DVD. I feel so much stronger than even a month ago, so I'm really enjoying the health benefits and can't wait to see the numbers on the scale to keep going down. Anyone who wants to friend me, please send a friend request to me.0

I AM SO EXCITED TO FIND THIS GROUP!!!!!
and yes I realized I shouted this out. I too am 54- birthday coming up in July, with 70 lbs to lose.
Just became an empty nester this year and hit a bout with the doldrums, gaining about 15 lbs.
My oldest daughter has struggled with weight issues and lead me here, but there just seemed to be so many young
thin people who wanted to lose 7 lbs to get into a bikini.
Would love to have support and friends my age/ goal to work through this! Barb

Good morning all! I am a 55 year-old nana looking to lose around 100 pounds. I started Weight Watchers (really only program I have taken seriously over the years) in October but I am finding I was eating too many carbs. Although I lost 34 pounds since October 2011, I am looking at tweaking what I am eating. This is really the first time I have counted calories and carbs. While a little challenging I am amazed at what I am discovering. I love WW but I think this is where I need to be right now. I would love some friends.0
