Hurt my knee running yesterday...

I have been training for a half-marathon on May 5th and I've been doing a my long run on the weekend. So, yesterday I set out to do a 10 mile fun and I felt fine before I left. At the beginning of my run my ankles were bothering me, which was strange because I hadn't had that problem before; after about three miles they were fine, but my knee started to hurt. It felt like it shifted to the left (my knee, hopefully that makes sense). So, I tried to adjust my footing so my knee would stop hurting and I figured the pain would go away like it did with my ankles. So I was starting on my 7th mile and my leg gave out and my knee really hurt! I stopped running and walked home, which wasn't easy because the pain was extreme once I stopped running. I got home and immediately put ice on my knee, took some aleve and continued to ice it throughout the evening. When I got up this morning it was worse. So, I'm wondering if I should go get some kind of brace today? What else can I do? I'm gonna go to the doctor tomorrow, but I think maybe some type of brace would help. Just wanted advice from someone whose been there....
Thanks

I don't know what the answer is hun, but I sure hope it gets better. You'll be lucky to find a shop open today to get one though. Good luck with it! X

Sounds like you may have to bag it for a week or two. If nothing is abnormally swollen or discolored just stick to the RICE program and a little streching a couple of days and make a decision from there. That is unfortunate. I am in the 4th week of half training with and 8 miler today. Hope it comes out ok even though I KNOW how bad and injury mentally funks a training program. Keep us posted.

Compress and elevate. When lying down have your leg elevated above your heart.
  • I experienced something similar last week..I iced it for a few days & switched to the elliptical/bike for cardio & my knee pain increased. So I had 2 discontinue exercise for a few days and completely rest my knee. Turns out I had some inflammation in both knees. I had to get some prescription Meds & a knee brace as well. I ran 7 miles yesterday at a light speed with my knee brace and it felt fine. So I suggest rest, meds, & a knee brace.I hope u get better soon!

RICE and go to the Dr. You could have an injury that needs some intervention.
