When I am entering my calories burned for the day, my ellipitical machine says one amount and MFP says another amount. Has anyone had this issue and which one do I use? (The elliptical is usually more and I'd like to use that one! ;-D )

MFP is usually wrong. Unless you're working as hard as you can the whole time you say you work out. So I just use what the machine says. Of course you could spend money and get a heart rate monitor (everyone you ask will tell you the same thing) but I don't use one of these.0

I'd say split the difference. The only way to know for sure is via HRM.0

The problem here is that ellipticals have a reputation for overestimating calories; and MFP's estimates are often just shots in the dark. Agree that HRM would be the best way. If that's not possible, then at least try to be very consistent in what method(s) you use to log.0

Thanks all! Since my weight loss goal is not a larg amount and it has taken me twice is long to get close to it, I know something is amiss. I will start estimating my excercise calories accordingly. Splitting the difference might be the easiest way. Thanks again.0

I would use the estimate on the elliptical. MFP does'nt take in account for the resistance level or how steep you place the machine.0
