Does anyone here own one? What do you think of it?

I've had one for a bit (heh) over a month now, and I've been loving it. I've used pedometers before, but the fitbit gets everything right that your run-of-the-mill pedometer gets wrong (at least for me). I've definitely been more active since I got it, trying to meet my daily goals for steps and flights of stairs.

There's a Fitbit users group here on MFP as well: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users

I just received mine this weekend and so far I am pleased. I am struggling with what to do with my calorie adjustment that shows up. For now, I'm just ignoring and sticking with my calorie goal here and exercise calories.

I have had mine for a while now and I love it. It really depends on how you use it as to whether it was worth the money. Some use it as a simple pedometer, but if you utilize their website it really is a lot more. It motivates me to move, move, move!!!

I was seriously thinking about it, but a fair number of people have commented on the durability factor (i.e., it does hold up well with rigorous use). Be interested to see what long-term users (i.e., 6 months or more) have found.

I love mine. Not only that, but I love their customer service.

Make sure you're entering into MFP your exercise times. Once you do that it syncs with the Fitbit and the exercise calories on MFP adjust themselves properly. I would continue to do what you're doing and refer to MFP for your calorie goal. Remember that the Fitbit is calculating your total calorie burn throughout the 24 hour period since your body is always burning calories :)

yes, ignore it, because it may take it away with the first sync of the next day. I made the mistake a few times or eating within the limit it showed only to have fitbit take back some of their credits and putting me over again.

I am new to my fitbit also...i have had it for about a week...but so far i love it...i had a lot to learn....It automatically logs your amount of calories you should eat and then adjusts by your activity level during the day....so when you see over 1,000 calories burned right off the bat dont think something is wrong it will adjust. (it figures your BMR) It has a stop watch that can be started during an activity....that way if you are doing an activity that is not walking/running you can then change it to whatever it is (i believe you would do that on MFP-like i said im still learning) fitbit and MFP willl figure out the correct calorie burn. Couple good things i have learned over my week of wearing this...it will log steps/stair during driving...if you will be taking a long drive..hit the activity button and then log it on fitbit as driving...it will adjust the steps/stairs off :) still figuring that out myself..i dont drive too much. Also if you want to track sleep...you wear a wrist band and hit the stopwatch when you go to sleep and when you wake up..thats it...it will switch it to sleep for you...its great. I also use the stop watch during my morning walk....i do not change it at all...but it allows me to check my speed, pace, steps, and calories for that exact time frame...i think its great so far. Also make sure you accuratly have you activity level set in MFP...if not you will have a crazy adjustment of calories (like 500) for your fitness level...I know a lot of people set themselves to sedentary even when they are not...but it seem to calculate better is you set it correctly...also make sure you set both fitbit.com and MFP to the same goals so they calculate the same...hope that helps...and sorry so long. Any other questions feel free to ask...i am still learning but we can learn together (any fitbit users) :flowerforyou:

My husband and I were talking about how awesome ours are this weekend. They make us aware if we need to get up and move more. It is also motivating to look at my dashboard (on the website) and see what I have done for the day.

As far as the calorie adjustment you should not ignore it, you may want to consider changing your activity level if it is showing an adjustment. After I changed mine, it stopped. Simple fact of the matter is, MFP had my bmr 200 calories LESS than what I was actually burning.

It is also important to make sure that your stride is set correctly. I am 5'3' but I have short legs and a very long waist. So I had to adjust my stride to accurately reflect how far I actually travel.
