Question for moms

I'm going after work to visit my best friend at the hospital, she just had a baby. I'm going to ask her if there is anything I can bring her, like a magazine or whatever. But should I bring a card or stuffed animal or whatever? I already got her shower gifts, but I feel weird going emtpy handed. Or is all the stuff parents accumulate at the hospital just more junk they have to cart home?

Replies

I agree, bring really good food, and a book or magazine. Don't bring too much stuff, because with the baby and the samples the hospital gives you it is a lot to carry out when you leave. I wish i had better food when i was there, because you feel fine, and the hospital food is horrible.

Yes, a fav food or something is always good....maybe a coffee drink if she's gone without caffeine!!

You know what are nice? Those "Cleansing cloths"...that you can buy. When I had my c-section and couldn't get up and about as easily, having those on my bedside table to just wipe my face once in awhile (When you are feeling ick!!) are great!

    Sounds like good advice.

  • Yes, food is the way to go. Cereal bars, nuts, etc.. or drinks like nice fruity sparkling water. Also, small sample bottles of nice shower gel, body lotions etc would also be welcome - something that can be used in hospital and left behind!

How well do you know your friend? The following would go down well, but it might be a bit odd giving or recieving these if you dont know her well. (And this might sound really weird) cabbage leaves - not to eat though! (TMI ALERT!) They are great for easing the discomfort in the boobs - wether she is nursing or bottle feeding either way cabbage leaves will be needed and they do work! - post natally, a new mam can never have enough big knickers!
Can you contact her partner - no doubt he has been given a shopping list of "girlie" products to get from a pharmacy that he might be uncomfortable buying. Perhaps you can help him with this.

I had great hospital food!

But I would have really enjoyed a good cup of coffee! I don't find it ness to bring gifts or a card. Coming to visit is thoughtful enough! IMO. I was happy poeple cared enough to come by. :flowerforyou:

I wanted the travel sized shower gels/ shampoos/ conditioners. We were out when my water broke so my hosp. bag was left at home and trying to get daddy to leave his new baby girl for and hour to get it for me was a huuuge mistake. lol

I had 32 hrs of the worst labor and all I had to cleanup with was a sample size baby shampoo. :grumble:

After that I would've picked food. We were stuck there for 3 days after she was born and they slowly stop bringing you the good stuff. lol

For new mommies...I always bring something a little more indulgent like a B&BW basket or Godiva to the hospital. When there's a new baby in the mix, mommies can feel a little underapprecated after all that hard work!

You might want to bring her something that will help her feel pretty again. I just felt fat and really ugly after I had my kids.

Maybe a beauty product of some kind, something she can pamper herself with - because starting now, she's going to give all the attention to her baby and not to herself - and she's going to need to remember that it's okay to take care of herself too.

    Just a thought...
  • Good Luck With the 2nd csection Tammy.....

As a csection mommy myself, I am wondering what the 2nd one will be like seeing that I will know what to expect when the time comes.
