Hey all

I got asked by a teacher at my former high school to split the duties of teaching fitness classes to eighth graders twice weekly with another former classmate. It'll be fun and extra exercise for me I have no doubts about that, but I have no idea what to teach! Any suggestions would be really appreciated. =)

Whatever fitness routine you have been doing on yourself would be the best thing to do. Because you are used to it and would know better how to teach it.

Teach them how to run around outside... Adults wouldn't feel obligated to spend hours in a gym if we retained the desire to act like kids :)

    Also dodgeball rules

What about proper technique. And basic core exercises and yoga poses...

I think that would stick with them and be useful forever...

dancing is so popular right now. watch some videos online and make up a routine or use a DVD is you have access to a TV.

Square dancing!

Okay, now seriously, how about dances like "The Cha Cha Slide" , "Cupid Shuffle", and wedding standards like "The Electric Slide" and "Achy Breaky Heart", interspersed with more modern dances they may actually like (I don't pretend to think that eighth graders today are into doing "The Macarena".)

Oh yeah, and anyone who chooses not to dance because it is "lame" can run laps around the gym in the meantime.
